From things I have learned over the years, I gather this is what they did:

- Before the war they opposed assistance to the Allies against the Axis.

- During the war they backed MacArthur, whose big feat was to cause hundreds of thousands of needless deaths in unnecessary campaigns.

- After the war they opposed aid to rebuild Europe.

Did I miss anything?

Too simple. The parties were very different then, ideologically and regionally. Many of the divisions don't fall in the same place today; not even close.

Yet the Republican Party still quite shamelessly stands in support of right-wing totalitarianism, military-industrial supremacy uber alles, and a certain pathological greed.

Same ol', same ol', if you ask me.

The difference is that with Nixon, they decided that treason was acceptable as a path to absolute power.
