    Nice work, Bruce, as always.

    What's the work:beer ratio?

Is Love Me a local boat? Or, did you make her up?

There are two kinds of boaters: those who have run aground, and those who lie about it.

Made her up . It has been ages since the local race boats have used grown frames or cotton caulking. No more schooners getting underway with human steam ."love me" just a nod to the name of the restaurant/bar, "Elvis".

While most of the schooners may be confined to our memories, great to see you keeping the trade for beer project's alive and well . " Island Style "

I was afraid for a few days that it may have been dengue or the new one, chickengonge (spell), but just a crud flu. I am better, thanks Kevin.
edit, turns out it WAS dengue.

You sure would not want to catch the chicken flue judging by the condition of our neighbour. He caught his in Vanuatu back in September of work until January and still not mowing his own lawn. Looks to be worse than our Dengue or Ross river fever.

You made me aware of the ciguatera Bruce , with your tale here a few years ago. This chicken thingy is in the islands ( pacific) too aparently. Bit of denial going on , stories get squashed for tourism etc.
Nurse friend just came back from a clinic "at an island' yesterday and she's seen some horrible stuff. But worse, she's quite worried about these two new ones.

Talking with folks, maybe I did have a dose of dengue. Fever, chills, bodyache, chest congestion, fatigue. I still have chest congestion, (no pot smoking for weeks!!). Also , my wife did not "catch"it. She usually gets sick more than I do .
Anyway, Some action from Dominica .

Dominica is one of the funkier places I visit. It can be a bit heavy duty, folks are very poor, lotta hustling and begging.
But they are resourceful too. This almond tree was being cut up with a chainsaw for lumber. Chap is VERY good, cuts accurately by eye, no guide.

    just lookit that!

...and one night and 2 days... we are in Carriacou. Gonna stay put here for 6 weeks.
Due to my hand injury, I did very little work to the topsides in december, and we opened a glued seam up stbd forward, and of course we pushed it underwater for 4 days. Just enough water came in to require the entire contents of lockers to be emptied, swabbed, dried.
..but it was a great sail, topsl and mizzen up n down a dozen times, with channels and calms behind islands.nothing to do but read.

I met a guy who'd singlehanded from NZ to Tonga in quite bad weather, waves had punched out a silicone plug that had been put in his anchor locker to feed the winch wires. Anchor locker filled up and then flooded the boat. Talk about shell shocked, he'd found the floorboards floating in 40 knots and big seas, he had seen the light.
We took his lines and helped him in to the customs dock. What a mess.

Nothing got wet or damaged, just some clothing. I like to swab the epoxy hull with sweetwater after an ocean dosing of salt. Gotta get the human funk out too once in awhile.
Tyrell Bay, Carriacou just might be peaking out for cool places. Much more development may put it over the top , but just enough right now to give a wee boost to the economy. No begging or hustling here like in some other places.
A dozen nicely painted and maintained local built plywood speed /fishing boats right in front of us.

My youngest kids had a dose of chickengunya in PNG a few years ago now. Uncomfortable for a few days, but not too bad.

A friend was up a river in French Guiana, felt sick, lay down and nearly died . A friend of his visited him a week or so later and found him comatose and took him to hospital. Dengue apparently. He's a lucky man.
