Does any one have sources for large yachtsman/fisherman anchors, wooden shell snatch blocks (5/8" plus line), wooden shelled deck mounted swivel blocks (we know about Dauphinee's), bronze shackles larger than 3/8", bronze or brass running lights, cast brass/bronze dome lights? We need them for boats we are building or rebuilding.

Thanks for any and all information or leads

Hey, Welcome to the Forum! Sorry I can't help you with your search... I've been getting ready to ask YOU folks about some bronze fittings I haven't been able to find for my project... There is a fellow from down under in the business who posts here pretty regularly. Here's his e-mail address: mikefield@woodenboatfittings.com
    Perhaps he can help?

Lunenberg foundy would probably have all the stuff other then blocks that you are looking for.
Otherwise I think there is a company called traditional marine outfitters also in Nova Scotia that bought out a lot of the stock from an old chandlery in NY that carried stuff like that.

    Best of luck

GOLLL-LY! Imagine, Gannon and Benjamin asking US where to get fittings. I don't know whether to be flattered or depressed. I thought you guys had the inside track on everything! LOL

Hey, I can't imagine you haven't heard of Davey and Co, London, but if not, let's just say, if they don't have it, or can't get it, you'd better fire up the foundry!

BTW, the last time I was out to the island, I saw a bunch of huge old "fisherman" anchors tall as me and then some just laying around in a vacant lot down the road from you guys. I guessed they'd been drug up in the fisherman's nets or some such. I tried to sneak one onto the ferry for my front yard, but couldn't lift it...

Last year I covered a lot of the waterfront looking for wood-shell snatch blocks and found that almost nobody is making them any more. A couple of blockmakers said they would custom make some, but needed a pretty big order. The only outfit I found advertising them was Toplicht, in Germany. They market teak shell/stainless snatch blocks for 150mm and 200mm line. Their catalog has a lot of good stuff. We bought a lot of ash-shell blocks from them for the big schooner we finished recently; they are good quality. www.toplicht.de, E-mail info@toplicht.de.

[Had a great time a few years ago when a group of us from Wisconsin chartered "When and If" for a week. The Lobdells were super hosts.]

Peter Sibley: The Conrad blocks with jarrah shells look very nice, but as with all other wood-shell block makers I have contacted except Toplicht, no snatch blocks.
