I know that the old car hobby has a lot of supply houses that specialize is old obsolete parts.

Does any know if there is anything similar for outboard engines? I have a 1981 35 HP Evinrude and a lot of the parts are no longer available from the authorized dealers. Perhaps there are people who buy up old outboard motor inventory or who make replacements parts?

By the way, I know that the prices charged by authorized dealers are mighty high for parts. I can understand that if the part is pretty specialized and limited to a few models.

However, I was pretty amazed when they charged me $4.00 for a single #10 ss washer and $4.80 for a 5/16" ss lock nut. They maintained these were special in some way. I did some checking and the only thing special about the lock nut was that is was fine thread instead of coarse thread. I bought some more at Ace Hardware for 40 cents.

Anyway, any suggestions on fixing up the old motor would be appreciated.
