I've been staring into the boat for the past couple of days, envisioning the enjoyable woodworking to come but dreading the sanding and fiberglassing of the interior that must precede it. Have to put on my "big boy" pants tomorrow and just get to it!

Wow, totally different boat right side upwith a coat of bottom paint. It looks great Rich!

Re: 14th Star: 18' Palmer Fantail Launch

I just finished the interior glassing. Second coat of epoxy went on a few minutes ago. The job wasn't as bad as I suspected since I was going for a "not perfect" surface that will all be covered up. After sanding out the planking with my RO sander, I mixed up some WEST 410 filler and faired in all the low spots. That was then sanded and the resulting surface was "fair enough" that the glass would sit nicely with no gaps, bridges, lumps or bumps.

I'll take the rest of the weekend off and pick up again on Monday. Next comes making the floors, followed by laminating the ribs. All of this will be out of cherry. I'll be using the molds as forms to laminate the ribs. I know that most stripper boats don't have ribs, but I'd like to put some in as this boat is bigger then most strippers. Remember, my planking is only 3/8" thick, so ribs every 2' should help stiffen her up.

Here is how she sits at the moment with interior glassed.

Very pretty, we need more fantails in the world.

Thanks. Until I get the launch done, I'll just have to row this old clunker around.

Looks great Rich. I'm really looking forward to the time when you start installing the electrics, wires, instrumentation, batteries. Keep up the good work.
