Congratulations to all indeed, well done, hell-of-a-story.

I'll take my own moment of glory here as the intrigue wanes in this thread.
My crew and I won the Slegg Build / Race a Boat Competition in the 30th running of the race in Sidney BC yesterday.
A hot four hour boat build, hand tools only, $100 worth of pre-ordered materials.
    Fun.

By coincidence, I just landed in Juneau after flying over the entire course. What a long and lonely trip that watereway is. I'm even more impressed now by those who ran it. A big tip of the hat to all.

All your links to weather, tide and cameras, along with your commentary, opened up the information that to my mind was what really made this race something to follow from the start.

    Thank you Kevin.

I'm entering a boat in next year's R2AK and am currently looking for a second, spare, shake down crew.

I need one crew almost immediately for sea trialing and another starting in March but would like to meet any candidates now.

My intension is to also trial crew so I can build a list and select two finalists.

Although the sea time in the next ten months will be extensive, the positions are that of spares to a 3-man existing crew so the chance of actually competing in the race are largely unknown.

So you might be asking yourself, "What's in it for me?" Well, you'll receive extensive training time on the course including all the rapids and narrows. And there will be opportunity to be an integral part of the team, to be involved in boat construction, fit out, sea trials, support, etc.

All the sail training will be just the three of us as the other two crew don't live anywhere near here and won't arrive long before the June 23rd race.

Please Note: Helmets and a dry suit are a necessary part of your turn-out kit for this ride.

PM me if interested and you live in, or near, Victoria BC Canada.

So it might be helpful if you say what the boat is. It could be anything from a dragonboat to a foiling catamaran

Pretty hard to enter a boat in a race when you don't know the rules....They have announced a race, and that there will be changes from the last race, but no NOR yet. So the rules, and which boats will fit, are unknown. Perhaps R2ak 2 will be a singlehanded race? Or perhaps there will be several portages, weight or budget limits, or a restriction to only carbon trimarans? We don't know....so just cool your jets and speculate.....

    Patience boys, patience.
September 11th is not far away, all is said to be revealed then in PT.
In the meantime, things are developing quickly here on my end.
Still fielding interested crew PM's and now looking even further as off-shore crewing options seem in flux.
Serious inquiries only, but don't let the helmet and dry-suit prerequisites scare you, they are just safety items for a very fast boat.
    Nobody's dieing on my watch.
    Cheers!
