That's a nice size. Having just read through your Wairiki rebuild again and caught up with your progress with My Girl all I can say is wow, you're not afraid to tear into ambitious projects. The framing you replaced makes mine look practically pristine. One of the advantages I saw with your riveted frames is that it looks like it made disassembly fairly easy, a definite advantage over deteriorated screws. Of course I would need to find a helper or two that would stick around for longer than ten minutes to rivet mine.

It's great that you're taking the time to document your projects and sharing them with us. Wairiki turned out beautifully and I'm sure My Girl will end up in similar fashion.

I do suddenly feel better about my old girl after reading through your My Girl site though.

Ive started to template the engine beds, ive beefed them up a bit this time, hot glue gun and mdf

Then split the templates and laid them against the Kauri Slab, then a mates dad cut them up for me.

they fitted pretty well, just some final cutting and repair one of the ends

beds settled in with correct alignment and spacing.

    ends repaired.

i decided that i had to do some more ribs up fwd, so here we go again

with that done i put the beds down on an epoxy filler and leveled. Once these were dry i pulled them out and cleaned them up, fit is 100% after that

cleaned up, and painted ready for final fitting

looks good, I'd be getting my stapler and treated kaik veneers and be triple skinning it with gallons of goo to stiffen it all up. But that's me.

    knees in now

fitted the aft deck beams and kingplank

they look like the camber is all wrong, but it's the outward curve of the transom buggering the look up

I have a feeling this is one of those projects that is going to steam right on to a successful launch. Sorry about all the puns. Great work.

You chose the right boat! She is a great design and really deserves the kind of TLC you are giving her! You are an example of what can be done once the mind has been set to the job!
Bravo and good on ya mate!

    I'm impressed.
So no keelson and the engine bearers are the key strong back that hold her shape?
    Great to follow your progress.

    hey Zane,

there's a very short cut back keel which takes the shaft into the boat, not much else, i wonder how i'll cope with bumping the bottom with no prop protection and a spade rudder....

Jim, Cheers! I always feel I should be making more progress after reading your updates gives me a kick in the pants to hurry up.

Hi Jase, I have the same prop and rudder setup on my Woolley 88. Normally you touch bow first at slow speed, then you back of.
We have yet to hit the prop or rudder. A shoe under the prop will reduce performance and if you do hit put a lot of leverage on the rudder.
Do make a mental picture of where that keel is exactly located, as that is where a straddle carrier must pick you up.
I have seen a shaft bent when they picked up a boat with straddle strap under the shaft......
I do like the restoration work you are doing on My Girl......my problem is I will not be able to keep up with you in the Colville channel....

Don't worry Don, no one goes fast through the Colville channel.
I only do it by yacht but the sea state most of my trips would limit you to 7-10knt in a Launch any way,
Unless you can do wave speed without broaching.
My last trip up was late August when we had those strong easterlies. Beam onwould have been no fun!

    Beautiful!

Hmmmmm, ..... Am I seeing what I think I am figuring out?...... that the engine sits so far forward that it is actually forward of the main bulkhead and is in the cabin?
