Decided it was time for the grey paint to exit, so i sanded the stb side until the sander gave up the ghost.

I made all new bolts for the stem and fitted them, filled the holes and sanded it all up.

I think she should be called Rumrunner.

Wow!!!!!! Gorgeous!!! You are to be commended (for all the work AND for recognizing that is what she was when you brought her in)
Now we need some interior shots too.

The removal of last centuries detritus on top is truly awesome!
What a transformation, especially considering the as found state wasn't as bad as most of the rest of the classic launches.

Great workmanship and great photos too.
I like the grey paint. Those steamed ribs always look weak to me.
I guess they are strong though.
I love the smell of fresh cut plywood in the morning.

The boat stiffened up hugely when the ribs went in, they seem damned strong when you try to break them....

Going to possibly do the deck in gray.... how does everyone feel about this? I worry it might be too hot.....

I cannot comment on the deck colour but I want to tell you that you have done a very good job.

Myself I am known locally for repairing and rebuilding things that others would never have considered to be in rebuildable condition. However at the start I would have considered your boat to be too far gone considering it's light build.
And still you did it. And you did a very good job at that. I am very impressed...... and very humble!

I bet you'll find using that hatch in the cabin top a good bit, for steering and visibility. A friend has the same arrangement on his boat and loves it. He says it's nice and quiet up there and much simpler than minting and maintaining a flybridge. You can see the 'surround' for the hatch here:IMG_1777.jpg

I'd say gray, or the other color that I like a lot for such places is a buff-tan (I use what used to be Interlux "Miami Tan").

John Mac did a lot of research into colours , may have written an article for Boating NZ perhaps. He found that small shade differences from white on had a profound effect on heat . Give him a call, Jase.

We had very light blue decks, Awlgrip's "Ethereal Blue", and changed to their lightest gray "Whisper Gray". Huge difference in deck temps, have to hose them off to cool them sometimes. Decks are glass over ply (and I worry a bit about the epoxy). This is in the tropics, working boat so she's active a lot, and the whole deck never gets redone at once, but I'm gonna start switching back to the lighter color I think. I really like the look, but at least here, its too hot.

I really wanted to use Bristol Beige as I used on Wairiki, but it's discontinued in the interdeck range.... and the cream and blue options are gross..... Left a msg for John....

Interdeck being my favorite option, tried the grits into paint and disliked them all :P

hmmm nice Chrome hand rails there Ned... I need to find something similar....

rbgarr I can get the top of my head out standing on the sole so it should be quite good I expect, worst case i'll make a slip in tiny perspex screen, like sun glasses for the hatch

Hmm, ......... I actually have another set, exactly the same, and I would be glad to donate them. ........ Unfortunately I am on the other side of the world and shipping might be a bit painful.

As for the deck colour, I agonised over it with Sheryl, in the end and after a "for F's sake get on with it" from various forum members I mixed up my own "bristol beige" If you do then make sure you get it done professionally and make a note of the pigments or get an extra supply for touch ups.
