Okay...perhaps this is crazy but is there a book on how to create a rope muffin etc for my Lawley take off ( plastic ) 1901 dory ( dinghy )? Perhaps a company that makes them if a do it yourself book is not available.

I'm partial to The Marlinspike Sailor, though I know that there are several other good texts.

I think the trouble here may be that there are many ropework books that cover decorative stuff as a sidenote, but few that focus on the decorative stuff alone.

As I understand it...it's the protection at the bow of one's dinghy/dory/etc. so that the dinghy/dory etc. doesn't raise havoc with the side of your boat...Often nailed in place with bit of old tire.
Also seen on the bows of tugs....

I had made a bow puddin' for a chaisson dory that had a murderous stem. Started out making a swordmat pattern and to taper, I would drop a hitch leaving a tail. It ended up looking like a mini tug puddin'.

Hal...this is beautiful but looks a bit too ornimental for my intentions....Wiuth all of those boaters paying little attention if any to the five mile an hour rule ( or no wake zones )...I need something a little more substantive to protect my varnished transom from the occasional banging...Yes, I can tie the dink alongside but...
