A friend has asked me for a recommendation on a marine surveyor to evaluate some wooden boat repair that involves gluing and lamination in the Southern Maine area. I would appreciate some some recommendations as my contacts are all in the commercial and metal boat world.

Feel free to email me privately:

"PAUL HALEY grew up in Marblehead, Massachusetts, working in his father’s small boatyard. Between 1970 and 1976 he went to sea on the research vessels of Columbia University and the University of Miami. In 1976 he returned to Marblehead and worked first at Graves Yacht Yards and later at Ted Hood’s Little Harbor Boat Yard; during this time Paul also began surveying boats. In 1985 he joined marine surveyor Giffy Full, and the two of them have worked together ever since. Over the years Paul has surveyed many wooden vessels, including the USS CONSTITUTION, HMS ROSE, and the MAYFLOWER, to name a few. He has worked for the Navy, being involved in the wooden minesweeper program. He is recognized by Lloyd’s of London as a wood vessel expert and is a conservator for the Heritage Preservation in Washington, D.C. Paul is a member of the National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS) and has written articles for WoodenBoat along with other publications. When not surveying, he can be found sailing his 98-year-old Friendship sloop.
