I don’t think so Jase, if it had sunk at the dock it would have been declared derilict and crushed and it did turn 3 1/2 years ago. But who knows? Right now I’m going to chalk it up to our very moist marine environment.

Do you have a compression tester for diesels? It may well run, diesels will generally run even when nearly dead, but you'll have a much better idea of how long it might run for if you get compression readings for each pot.

Also, Jim, does your exhaust have an anti-siphon valve fitted? Don't ask me how I know that this is a very good, indeed excellent and wonderful and necessary and cost-saving item.

The windings on the starter look ok, that's the important thing. A bit of a cleanup with some new bearings and it will be good to go.

The starter is back together. No pictures as it was a pretty dirty job and I didn’t feel like messing around with my phone.

Today I did a little job I’ve really been looking forward to. I installed the new deck fills for the fuel tanks.

Good move having them outboard of coaming Jim, for spills. Very posh.

                  So does the engine go?

Yeah, still waiting on parts. Which will be a little longer wait now as I ordered the wrong ones. It’s been surprisingly hard to chase parts for this motor on the internet. Now if it was a 3gm instead of a 3hm it would be a piece of cake.

Re: The Harbor Master Called me Today

Here’s a job I can work on while waiting for other things to happen.

                          D07CD700-FE1F-457F-8E48-627CEF145BF7.jpg

I got a new/old steering cylinder to replace the existing one. The old one needs parts that I again can’t seem to find. But I did find a complete cylinder so hopefully it will work. It’s got an inch and a half more travel so I’ll need to adjust for that. Plus, it has a different attachment point for the rudder so one of those needs to be made as well. Fortunately, I have a bench lathe and a bit of old prop shaft and turned out this.

Not fancy but serviceable. Cut some threads.

                          And it even fits.

A little head scratching on the geometry, and a line swap, and Bob’s your uncle.

Just a little something knocked up on the lathe huh? Very nice. After the huge expense of importing something as simple as some canoe rudder fittings, setting up for some simple metal fab work might be in order......not sure about a lathe though, would need to put a lot of work through it to pay for itself.
Im about ready to flush my 2GM, sump gasket and anodes etc finally turned up. Hope yours fires up a treat!
