I've sailed on boats with both solid wood and slotted aluminum. The wood looks much nicer, but being able to hang a snatchblock wherever you want it is pretty nice, too. The rails you've put on are perfect for the boat...open around the cleats, self draining and sturdy.

I like the toe rails outboard of the cleat. They are sacrificial rub strips to save your decks from lines chafing...

I’ll just throw a little paint on those rails and bed them real quick. Should be done in a jiffy, then I can cross them off the list. Twelve hours of work and four tubes of 4200 later, I’m almost done.

I’m still looking for a cleat for the bow and a deck iron for the anchor ride to go through into the anchor locker. No luck there yet but while I was cruising through the boat house to see what I could find I came across this bow roller that has been sitting on a shelf for as long as I can remember. It was one of those items you quit seeing after a while.

It it fits on the stemhead perfectly, like it was made for it. I think I’ll keep it.

I admit it, I have a fondness for galvanized cleats. Strong, cheap, and they have a nice shape. I could pony up the money for some bronze ones in a similar pattern but that just seems a little too over the top.

On the stem fitting, the chrome is pretty worn through, but it’s good bronze underneath. I’m debating whether or not I should strip it. Anyone know any good tricks for stripping chrome?

Well, I think stripping nickel chrome...is either a chemistry project or a complex wire brush/small drum sander project. The chemistry project is a bit fraught with waste products and complex setup, the other is just tedious. Might be worth it tho ...

Some of my chrome is less than ideal and I decided to just let nature take its course with it. Thought my boat is more of a chrome than a bronze type of girl. Lol

I'd be afraid of that bow fitting. It could either rip out the stem or rot out the stem , being fitted into the end grain.
Where would you cat the anchor?

With the plumb, or near plumb bow, how will you protect her from anchor damage when pulling it in?

That looks like an old set of study prints people used to buy before deciding which plans to roll out the big money for.

That might be a risk Bruce. The anchor will most likely live on deck when itís not in use.

Set some long lengths of bronze studding in epoxy down into the stem and you should be good to go. House restorers use a similar technique for replacing the rotted ends of beams.

Then bed it on rubberised bitumen sheet to keep the wet out.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

My fairleads for the bow showed up today.

They were then quickly absconded with and repurposed as bracelets.

Heavy bling, I was able to steal it back once their arms got tired.

    Some tracing.
