Nice to catch up with all the updates and scenery. Must have missed the post fitting the new exhaust wlbow, makes the rest of your engine look a bit grubby.....maybe send grumpy teenager into engine compartment with a wire brush? Interesting heat source, never seen anything quite like that, and why so high?

You mean the fuel tank? It is mounted pretty high but the bottom of the tank needs to be a minimum of 12 inches, 31 cm, above the metering valve on the stove. I could move the tank down on the bulkhead by about a foot but it would be harder to fill, take up more useful wall space, and still be a prominent feature of that corner. With it up high like it is I can at least have a hook on the wall under it and the fill is in the cockpit instead of the cabin.

I'm a fan of the fire extinguisher plan also ... a bigger one is on the to-do list for an air tank, even. Some day ...

But the brass Seagull tank might be quicker. And it also looks pretty good.

Well, now that the stove actually works it’s time to make it a bit more presentable.

A little light scrubbing with 120 grit.

Then a liberal coating of lard once the stove top was good and hot.

Thanks Chris, I even washed all the boat dishes, organized the silverware drawer, and generally cleaned and made room for more gear.

Ah - nothing like a clean galley. That's what we spent much of our time doing on Skookum Maru last weekend as well. I have to say that Amazon is looking very cozy, shipshape and ready for a great summer of adventure up north.

Very nice. I wondered how to treat one of those cast cooktops. My plan is to scrounge up some of those old '60s and '70s colored aluminum cups, plates, and flatware for my boat. No glass unless it's a safety glass window. Minimizing plastic and plastic waste as well.

You’re right really, after a few days it has faded into the background a little bit. It was a rainy mid fifties day here today. So this evening we all went down to the boat to hangout for a couple of hours and enjoy the stove. We even threw a bread pudding into the oven just for fun.

One of the crew did suggest that we add the ice cream churn to the gear list. I've taken it under advisement.

The tank has faded into the background but a polished brass one would really pop. I say you've got something functional for now, when you have time, swap it out for a nice brass one. You'll be glad you did because she'll look just that much better.

The sun streaming through the cabin windows woke me up at 4:30 this morning morning and I finally gave up fighting it an hour later. Man, we really need some curtains! None of the rest of the crew seem to be sharing in my affliction though and it’s not all bad news. The stove is lit, slowly heating up the cabin, and that means there will be coffee soon. The water is like glass this morning and a humpback mother and calf made a slow pass about thirty feet off the break water, a couple eagles just flew low and fast over the dock, the wind loud in their wings and the harbor seals are out and about, having gotten an early start on the days fishing. So I guess I will take that as just compensation and get about the day.

That's exactly the thing I love most Jim. That moment right there, when I get up to light the stove before anyone else is awake and then sit in the pilothouse while the the kettle heats up the water for coffee. Perfect.
