I like the way you think, Mike! I hope you had a Merry Christmas, y'old curmudgeon!

Here's a bit of Christmas bling for the saw, an Electrix magnetic base machine lamp. It's actually too bright, but wearing prescription sun glasses while sawing knocks down the glare somewhat.

If anyone needs such a lamp, these are the way to go, check ebay...

My own comment in a nutshell here is that your machine and restorative work are just plain OFS!

    Ikea
They have a nice LED gooseneck lamp that is inexpensive.
You would need to glue your own magnets on the base but that should be easy.

Thank, you, Jay, I'm glad you enjoyed the thread. The machine was certainly worth the effort that went into it. It's a positive joy to use.

I'll second those IKEA Jansjo lights, I have a bunch of them. But you Upsidedowntypes are getting ripped off, they are only ten bucks here. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20169658/

The little video was great, the smile says it all.

    Holy Guacamole, Jim!

    Have you watched that video?

It looks like the guidepost is made of India Rubber!

Of course it's just the camera playing tricks, but it's pretty scary just the same!

    Pretty wild stuff.

Excellent job, seņor! I'm sure that El Noyes will reconcile himself to the use of the carbide blade, and give his blessing freely.

    Excellent!

John, I can assure you that the guidepost does not move at all. The camera somehow makes the whole cutting sequence seem askew.

Paul, good luck with your search for a lathe, and I look forward to seeing you refurbish it with some of that sweet equipment you've been collecting.

Peter, I just scored a second lamp, for $45. on Ebay. Just though you might like to know.

I made a rip fence for the saw, nothing fancy, I just want to try out some resawing. This fence is of the same dimensions
as the Oliver fence shown in a previous photo. There are two 1/2"/13 holes drilled into the table top, to which the fence is bolted. These holes were planned for originally, there being thick bosses in the table casting where the holes are located.

The material fir the fence was a leftover bit of inch thick marine ply, which stats nice and flat. The working face will have a plastic laminate surface.

    Thank God!

I was afraid you'd been Shanghai'd off to the 23rd dimension without your knowledge, or something!

The "crazy man builds an engine" thread made me dig this one up. Bump for update.... how's the Oliver treating you, Jim?
