Aircraft spruce

While looking around the KR-2 homebuilt aircraft site I found this link to AircraftSpruce.com

If you go all the way through to the online catalog they have sitka spruce available listed under spar stock. It seems kinda high. I just did a test order and a 1 x 6 x 12' was $97.20 which works out to $16.20 a board foot.

Thought you might want to know.

When I aquired the first batch of materials to build my Long EZ, back in ought and 84 I got a piece of aircraft grade spruce about 3" x 3/4" x 60" to use as a streight edge. When priced out per bd. ft. it became a treasure. I still have it.

More recently I ordered spar grade Sitka spruce from Flounder Bay at about $6 / bd.ft. I thought what they supplied was very near to aircraft grade to my eye. It sure made nice spars.

Aircraft Spruce, Inc. might be a source for epoxy and glass but not boat wood. ...unless you might want a flying boat.

I found the URL for Flounder Bay

and checked it out. They have a good price for cane seats, $20 compared to $45 I've payed locally.

Do you still have the longEZ. If so would you consider adopting a grown child? I only have a few bad habits and I would promise to fill the plane with gas whenever I took it.

Yes, we still have the Long EZ but sadly it is much neglected, a victum of my current obsession and we both are about five gallons over weight (six lbs per gallon) so we've not made any long trips recently. If we ever get up your way it will probably be with Prairie Islander and maybe only as close as Lake of the Woods.
