OR-E-gone is a funny critter. Someone said recently that parts of it were like living in the backwoods 'hollers' of the Appilachians. And that's right. Back in the day - it had a huge KKK organization. Right now, there's a certain proportion of t-party idiots, coal-rollers, stars&bars wavers, survivalists, conspiracy theorists, and suchlike.

At the same time - Oregon has a long history of progressive innovations. Farm policy. Making the coastline, up to the high-tide mark, part of the state highway system... and therefore accessible to all. The initiative & referendum provisions giving voters the direct ability to introduce or modify legislation. Farmers cooperatives. City planning. Utopian communities. Secret ballots and the Australian ballot. Public Utility Commissions. Worker's Compensation laws. The Bottle Bill. Urban growth boundaries, to preserve farmland. Women's suffrage. Abolition of the death penalty.

Being the first state to make Labor Day an official holiday is one such distinction. It took another decade or so to make it a national holday.

These days, the split I mention is mostly an urban/rural split. The good thing is that the troglodytes are a distinct minority.

Yeah... Pre is certainly a local hero. And he accomplished much and died way too early. I tried that running thing, at a girlfriend's insistence. Made the ice jump right outta my drink. Had to skip it. Girlfriend didn't last long either...

Off? It's not the 'off' that's an issue... I don't have a beard (at the moment) but it would be red/grey. As for 'moose'! I prefer the term 'generously proportioned'.

Bit freaky that. There are people on this forum that have met me...nobody here knows that my Scots ancestry shows most when I grow a beard...spooky.

    Doing good things there Glen.

I made dinner tonight. All you have to do to keep a night-shift worker happy is to ask her what she wants to eat, commit the first option to memory, wait till she's finished reciting options, repeat the first option back to her and then go make it happen.

Good morning, Sleep was pretty good for a change. I hope Glen got some rest last night or early this morning. Got the coffee pot going and I guess I better have a Bloody Mary to show Glen how much I appreciate him getting the coffee ready to go.

Yeah, they're cute alright. Don't wear yourself out looking after her, rustle up some assistance as required from all those people that owe you one.

    G'mornin' ya bunch of nightowls.

I've made some coffee. I stopped & picked up some muffins. Hope y'all had a good rest. I certainly did. Kids are out of town for the long weekend. Went camping in the Gifford-Pinchot with the oldest's girlfriend & her mom & brother. Rafting on the White Salmon river tomorrow is their plan. So all of our guests are gone. We had the house to ourselves for some afternoon romping, then dinner, then watching tv together. We started out watching a movie, but it was such a dud, that we switched to a couple episodes of Star Trek: the next generation. Very sweet and nostalgic, as that is the only show we ever made a point to sit down and watch together... years ago.

Glen - I agree. From having been a part-time caregiver for the last 19 years, and working ourselves into exhaustion doing it toward the end, I say recruit any help you can. A fresher Glen will be a more competent, caring, and energetic Glen.
