The homeless people living in tents are suffering today.
I took em coffee this morning.
Everybody's wet and two of the tents were damaged by the wind.
I keep telling them, "it could be worse, you could be in Texas".

I like Utah's solution to the homeless problem. Well... partial solution, anyway. I talked to the head of a Community Development Corporation y'day at the faire that is exploring what it would take to enact such a measure in Oregon. Seems like it'd be a very good thing. It's gonna take a wholistic approach - and one that skips the blaming/shaming stuff altogether.

Another beautiful day here - with highs in the lower 80's. Next two days will be cooler, with a bit of rain... they say.

We're well into our summer pattern here; mid 70's overnight and mid to low 90's of a day with westerly breezes making evening storms inland.

Take whatever time you need, Glen. I'm sure we'll all still be loafing and/or lurking around when you get some time freed up.

For myself, as you all well know, when life and family obligations call for my attention I get scarce around here. The family gets first consideration, as well they should, and I feel we have all been in spots where we simply can't muster the time or energy to be here snarfing around with our pals, much as we'd sometimes rather be doing.

This place has provided a valuable diversion, a chance to step outside for a breather when real-life gets too wooly, to get glimpses of how other folks live and deal with adversity, and I'm grateful to have you folks around to remind me that we all face challenges later in life. Like you said, getting old ain't for sissies. Having a place where one can vent, kvetch, unwind a little, maybe be cheered up by a song or a funny tale has been a blessing many times over for me. And for that I'll never be able to thank you guys enough. Just so you all know . . .

I was listening to Jonny Lang's first CD today. I remember when he burst on the scene, with impressive guitar-slinger licks... and more grit than any teenager should have --

That was recorded about a week before I saw Shannon and Garry last October. Garry is good, but I think his brother Duwayne is better. Both are sons of RL Burnside. I talked to Andrea, the blonde on the white guitar for a while back in April at the Juke Joint Festival.

I think that Johnny Winters version was probably my introduction to that song. I have six versions on my tablet, that includes Jonny Langs, but not Johnny Winter's. I need to fix that. I also have versions by Muddy Waters, Mississippi Fred McDowel, Junior Wells and two from James "Son" Thomas.
