Here is a Ginger Beer for David, I wouldn't want to damage his delicate taste buds.

Fred should be up and around by now, probably brewing up some fancy coffee and getting ready for his workday.

Hi Fred. I miss my old desk and all the clutter, it was my tool box, medicine cabinet, computer station and holder of memos and other paper work I needed. I may never get used to this one.

    OK then!

Every now and then I can't face coffee right off so I make some of this Japanese stuff called genmai cha. It's cheap green tea with toasted rice or something. Tastes agricultural for lack of a better word, but with that flowery tea after-taste. A cup of that and I'm ready for some French Roast and some Devil Doll.

A Nisei lady turned me on to genmai cha. She and her husband made these little bean cakes for their tiny store that sold basic Japanese supplies. She was a big Dodgers fan, always wore the blue cap. Their daughter grew up and went to college in Alabama. They asked me what the drive would be like and I said, "Long, I don't recommend it." But they had this gold Accord that was pristine, so off they went. Couple months later I asked, "Hey, how was the drive to Alabama?" "Long!" The lady says, and we laughed. "In El Paso I begged my husband to turn around!" "I bet!" "How's the daughter?" "Fine." So I got my rice cakes and genmai cha and started to leave, when she said, "Can I ask you something?" "Sure", I said. So she asks me, in her medium-heavy accent, "What is, ah, white supremacy?" "It's a long story", I said. "Next time." But she died. So I make a cup and think of her.
    I'm not leaving.

I'll attempt to find room for one.

We had my sweetie's birthday dinner tonight. She loves salmon, so Son1 cooked some, along with some of the fresh asparagus, and some roasted potatoes. A new cheesecake for dessert.

I got her some summer dressers in cotton and in rayon. They haven't arrived from Vermont Country Store yet, so I showed her pictures, and she was very happy. I also gave her a set of silver interlocking heart earrings, which she raved about. She was a pretty happy camper by the time all the gifts were revealed. And the babies seemed to get that it was Oma's Day, so they were very snuggly too.
