    Good Evening All --

Just a quick beer for me. I have a drawing and a bid to do before I sleep, then I have to leave the house at 6:30 am for an early meeting tomorrow.

Kevin's violin thing reminded me of this, which is a stunning piece of musicianship. Five vocals (w/beatbox), violin, and cello. Tricked out in dystopic black, Lindsey Stirling is bearable. (When the music ends, hit pause to cut off the chirpy self-promo.)

Syed - I hope you made a dent in that pile of food. When it gets this hot... I'm not much interested in eating.

Well... my chores are done. Ready for something cold and wet.

I grabbed a beer from the back corner of the cooler. Don't know what it is, as the label is all in Czech... but I had to chip ice to excavate it. Perfect!

    Morning all.

Never having experienced anything remotely resembling the traditional fast Syed has just participated in, I was just pondering the effects that may have on a person (particularly a low MPG westerner such as meself). It's hard for me to imagine the certain physiological effects, much less the mental/spiritual adjustments one undergoes, but I'd assume there's an overall health benefit to giving the body some rest from the usual routine.

Not to pry, Syed, but given my total lack of a frame of reference I'm curious as what that must be like once you've reached the end of the observation.

Hiya Bob. I don't know about fun but it would be a challenge. And the need for self discipline puts it off the radar for moi, not that I was considering trying such a thing.

If I wanted to spend time avoiding food, it would probably require me touring parts of Asia for an extended period.

I have fasted a number of times. For health reasons, and as part of a spiritual practice. Sometimes it was water only. Sometimes fresh-squeezed juice. The body has reserves that kick in readily, and there is something about not using energy/blood-flow constantly digesting that can result in a different state of mind.

Curtis, I have been doing this practice (like many people) since I was 16. As this month shifts every year by about 10 days of Gregorian calendar the month of Ramadan falls in all seasons. I am in a position to confirm that I have never experienced any negative effect so far. For positive effects I shall have to do some thinking before answering your question.

Thanks Syed, any insights you care to share would be more than I currently have. Interesting that the date shifts year to year. I appreciate you opening the mind by sharing and wish you and your company all the best.

DMKIA - I love Chris Smither.

What a day we had. Picked up the youngest and moved him back home. He's gonna take a break from schooling and work for a while, while he ponders his future and builds up the bank account. The oldest helped (he's still in school, and thinks he's continuing to get all A's... YAAAYYYS... and his leg is healing well enough that he's scheduled to start tae kwon do again next month), along with our 'almost-son'... their buddy Chuck (he's also taking a break form school. Some medical issues are keeping him out of med school - but he just found a job doing some sort of medical hi-tech Inside Sales job - making a base salary higher than anything I made in my life, with additional commissions expected to be $30-50k). What a treat to see them all home, yakking up a storm, all happy after their various trials! After the drive home, I fired up the bbq and did some chicken with a dry rub on it, as well as some andouille sausage. Green salad, potato salad, and some very cold beer. I'm feeling quite fat and happy.

    You too Jimmy and David!
Somehow, I had never heard of Chris Smither till last night.
I googled and read his Wiki Bio...how the hell did I miss him for 40 years?
Makes me wonder what all else I missed!
