    Default Good bye Luna

    Sunset.jpg
We lost our companion of two years today.

Two weeks ago Luna developed what was though to be gastroenteritis. Having failed to respond to medication the vet took her in for X Rays to check for foreign bodies and so on. They showed a shadow or lump on her abdomen wall. Exploratory surgery today indicated that her digestive system had shut down completely, so we had to agree with the vet to not wake Luna from the anaesthetic.

You did a good thing, taking the ol dawg in.

I'm sorry, Nick. I've enjoyed your posts of Luna in the field and at the shore over the years. Best wishes to you and yours during this difficult time.

It's the hardest thing about having a pet. Your decision was an act of kindness and I hope you have many happy memories.

Very sorry to hear this. Losing our companions brings grief in proportion to the joy they brought us in life.

What are you doing about it?

That's the girl that saved your life, as I recall.

Perhaps, in the fullness of time, you will be given a chance to return the favor.

Sadie dog had a biopsy this week. We feared the worst, but our luck changed and she will be ok.

Yes Bruce, she was adopted. We know that she had two very happy years with an excellent foster carer before we took her on.

Dogs disguise pain well, but we know that she was in some discomfort, probably a belly ache, because she was drooling a lot. The biggest worry was that she had starved for two weeks, Lunas weight dropped from just over 20 kg down to 19 in those two weeks, and the lump grew in that short time so even if the lump was treatable, the gut shutting down made our decision for us.

Sorry Nick. I have an awful time with that sort of thing. I too do the right thing, even if circumstances require that I pull the trigger, but then I suffer immensely. I hope it's at least a little easier for you. You're a good man.

All of us who have lost a four legged friend will understand the sense of loss. You did what you could to get her treated and the best outcome in the circumstances must have been the way you dealt with the findings. The memories will remain and she must have had a great time with you.

Nick, I'm so sorry for your loss. Dog stories always seem to have sad endings, but until then are full of love and joy. Luna will always live in your heart.
