When I left my house in Georgia today, James Cotton's Cottonmouth Man CD was playing in my truck. I let it finish and play through again. Then about 1/2 way over here to Mississippi, I heard that he had died.

Glad to say that Eddie Cusic now has a stone on his grave. It was bought by the Mount Zion Memorial Foundation and I made a small contribution toward it. According to Eddie, he taught Little Milton to play guitar.

I think this photo is from the last time that I saw him.

This says that it is Son Thomas and Eddie Cusic. The vocals are sung by Son Thomas. Son Thomas made the sculpture that I am using as my avatar. Son and Eddie both lived in Leland, Mississippi.

Morning Jimmy, Morning All -- Boy did I sleep in today. Felt good! Stayed up too late last night reading, I guess. Yesterday was fun, though. Had lunch with a friend/client at his place. He fried up some big shrimp and put them on big ol' whole-grain & onion kaiser rolls. Some Porter alongside, and chocolate cake for dessert. After that I was ready for a nap, but we talked about his next boat.

On the way back home, I discovered a new fishmonger. Inspired by the fat new 'bible' of a seafood cookbook I discovered just the other day... I wanted to buy some of everything. What I ended up with was a quart of shucked oysters. Enough to both pan fry some, and make a batch of oyster stew. But the asian-run shop had a real variety of stuff. They were light on the typical offerings (salmon, steelhead, trout)... but heavy on the live tanks (crab, lobster, clams, eels, and various fin-fish) and oddball stuff (whole octopus, sea urchin). I'll be back there soon. They even had live geoduck. Something I ate often as a kid on Puget Sound, but haven't had in several years. I'm thinking clam chowder.

A lot of places here are now selling Crayfish. We did catch them here as kids with a piece of bacon on a string, but commercial sales here are pretty new.

I always used crawdads for bait.
    The fish love em.
When I was a kid, they were everywhere, in every creek and river.
    Not so much these days.
The waters are too polluted to support them.

I woke up with a very painful sore throat this morning. I went back to bad for a couple more hours and feel much improved now. It is still a bit sore.

Lotsa crawfish around here, still. One of the annual meals with the Coots is a crawfish feed at Timothy Lake. Throw the traps out overnight, or early in the day, then cook 'em with corn & sausage. I like the corn & sausage best, as I find crawfish both a bit bland, and a lot of work for little reward.
