    Default Van Morrison disappoints

I've been a big fan for a lot of years. However, when he starts releasing songs against the COVID quarantine and fills them with ignorant right-wing trash...

I listened as long as I could hoping to hear "Got ya!", but it never came. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am coming from someone who has inspired me for so long.

His work has always been informed by his strong Christian beliefs. Not obviously or blatantly usually, but it was there. Now it seems to have morphed into a form of fundamentalism. Or maybe he's just 'come out'.

Down at the kingdom hall . . .

It took years for me to figure out what chafed me about him.

Jack Nicklaus endorsed Trump today. There goes his reputation.

Wow, just listened. I was a big fan. You're right, what a disappointment.

I liked his singing style, but saw him live and it was short asnd disappointing. He was just going through the motions, and not for very long considering the cost.
    That turned me off.

Son in law is a sax player, he worshipped Stan Getz. He discovered that Getz's brother worked in the school district where SIL got his first teaching position. He made contact and in the conversation he stated his admiration and that he'd like to meet him some day. Mr Getz said, "No you don't. Believe me, you don't." And he didn't.

BTW, SIL thinks Morrison is a terrible sax player.

He used to play at Woodstock (the actual town of Woodstock, not the festival that wasn't held in Woodstock that gets all the ink) during their summer weekend concerts. We went there all the time and it was a terrific thing. Outdoors in a field, bring your blankets and weed, cheap entry, amazing bands every night.

Morrison played there frequently but was awkward to watch, always seemed bitter and treated his band with a certain degree of distain. I didn't know about his Christian convictions because to me he always seemed drunk. But that was 50 years ago so maybe it plays into his feelings now, just speculating. Some turn to religion to get square with themselves, it seems. Anyway, despite the fact that I was fond of his music at the time, he was not actually a great guy to watch in concert. I haven't favored his music in years though, having lost my taste for him. Most of it hasn't worn as well for me as some of his contemporaries music has.

I'm not really surprised to hear other people feel as I do about him but he's also one of those musicians who, when you say you don't care for his stuff, people look at you as if you're daft. I just don't find him all that sweet to listen to and haven't for years.

I believe he has been very vocal and concerned about the live music industry, and the devestating impact on workers involved.

Sure. Who isn't? So, how many paychecks are worth how many deaths? Adults find ways to solve their problems by working together instead of stomping their feet, making accusations, and demanding that the world be as they want it to be.

I have not listened to the YouTube link, so I can't say to much. But it is easy to say "it's just a paycheck"" when it's someone else without the pay.

Did you notice the other thing I said? I said, "Adults find ways to solve their problems by working together..." Your friends in the GOP are as far from that as a human being can get. Yes, people need a paycheck, but this isn't the way it's done. As for your insinuation that "...it's easy to say... when it's someone else without the pay." I think you know what I think of that accusation.

It was simply made as a possible defense of Van Morrison, I am sorry I didn't make that clear.

There's a rumor that no one who ever started a tour with Morrisson has finished it.

Just a crank, really, who made some good songs fifty years ago.

Thank you, peb. Maybe we can agree that the problem is complex and both solutions being offered right now are not adequate?

Uh, a crank? Perhaps. But, " some" good songs? The guy has had 18 in the Top 40 in the US and even more in the UK.

If you ever want to meet Van Morrison - He eats breakfast every day here without fail. He sat near my wife and was such a pill. The staff barely tolerate him.

How many top 40 songs does it take?

How many has he released in the past 30 years?

What has he done for me lately?

I wonder what his problem is?

By the way, Back On Top is one of the best albums I've ever heard.

Hmm... I'm afraid this all destroys my perception of him as the most soulful white man on the planet. Soulful people care about others.

I'll continue to sing his songs; They are in my range and they make my girlfriend swoon when I sing them to her while slow dancing. Mostly Tupelo Honey.

I'll listen respectfully to any of these anti-lockdown idiots just as soon as I hear they've been working in a nursing home or ICU.

So - you support ending lockdowns? Not surprising.

What do I mean? Some of the previous posts were rather sanctimonious IMO, I am curious if Clapton will be treated the same way. Oppose lockdown restrictions? We don't have any here, so I don't have any to favor or oppose. I would not c9mment on other lockdowns without understanding the local situation.

I am as disappointed by Clapton as I am by Morrison. I believe in spending my money wisely and I'll not be spending it on either of them.

As for comments being "sanctimonious", at least some people are trying to reduce the spread.

So the only solid answers are to blindly support all lockdowns or blindly oppose all lockdowns?

Texas is the most infected state in the Union with 1207000 cases, so I'll assume you're kidding, trolling or ignorant. Which one matters not.
