Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

Were there other leaves exhibiting a similar pattern, or was this the only one?

The more I look at it, the more I like Jim's shoe tread pattern idea. It got stepped on and the bruised cells rotted away.

I can't help but think of PAC-MAN, but I can't see what caused the bug to turn.

Alien bugs from outer space, kinda like crop circles.
There can be no other explanation.

    Local park circles

Auto sprinklers got stuck. Because of Covid, parks maintenance staff were furloughed. For 6 weeks, only these rings got hit by water.

Yeah, it's crop circle stuff. This is why we have letters like W, T and F.

Tasty, too. If you grow them, you get to see a fractal, branchy coral-looking fungus turn into that cascade of drooping lobes.

A long time ago, on this forum, I started a thread on Voronoi patterns in nature. It turns out, they can be 3-dimensional!

Yep, I admit it, partly why my BS degree was in Biology. I don't care for playing with the dangerous ones though. I did care for a captive copperhead when I was the park naturalist at Leroy Percy State Park. I have a series of photos of a kingsnake swallowing a very similar copperhead, they are on film though.

    Found a copy.

There is a book of short stories by Frederick Forsyth called "No Comebacks" with a story called "There Are No Snakes in Ireland". You should read it. The whole book is good and that story will make you think.

    Big Dory Build 34 060.jpg

Accidental result of laminating up one curved and one straight post then resawing and thickness planing them both into laminations then glueing them together in a box joint for a davit.
