Labor need the Greens, just as the Coalition need ON, UAP, the Nazis etc. The difference is that the Greens are a party of idealists and integrity. The Coalition's fringe parties are simply evil FWITs. Labor and Coalition need them to hold the centre.

That's probably a simplification Rick………….. But the coalition are closer to them after a term under a Trump fan religious fundie than they were before. and the election has increased that.

    Ah yes, the Bunyip Aristocracy
"Coined in 1853 by Australian journalist and politicianDaniel Deniehy (1828-1865) satirising a proposal of William Wentworth for a hereditarypeerage in the then colony of New South Wales.[1] At the time, bunyip was Sydney underworld slang for an impostor or con-man, a sense Deniehy may have been aware of, but which was “obviously” unknown to Wentworth.[2]"

You think so? Well, probably. But I think of it this way. Labor with all those Greens as members would be unelectable. History shows us that. The Coalition with all those fascists is equally unelectable. Without minor party spaces for extremists to dwell, both majors lose the centre, leaving space for independents that can prove impossible to shift, or bridging parties like our beloved but deceased ADs (the worst political betrayal by any individual in Australian history).

Nat. member for Gippsland Darren Chester said he might stand, but I doubt northern members would have him as he's a reasonable bloke. And of course he's a Victorian.

The Brisbane seats that fell to the Greens are all it seems river seats How much of that swing is due to the Greens mobilising as a help organistion immediately after the Floods?

The rise and rise of the independents and local politics vs national might force the ALP to change it's compulsory solidarity rules, otherwise they'll suffer the same fate as the Libs. The Nats of course have had a phyrric victory. They may not be relevant for some time.

Dutton seems to be apologising a lot, of course he has a lot to apologise for but I wonder how far back he'll go. As far as his time as a Terry Lewis cop?

Did you watchh the Labour Ministry announcement? Albo very crisp, very business like, gave short shrift to a couple of the press questioners. I'd like to know where they were from.

    Q&A
Lib. lawyer and MP on, obviously from the right. He doesn't get it. And neither does Kenny.
Blames misinformation from the 'left' press, and says because any action by Aus will not change the climate we should not bother.
And to a point he's right, year on year China's increase is more than all of Australias, and the world as we know/knew it is stuffed regardless of Putin and whatever he does or doesn't.

What exactly, did Littleproud achieve with his high speed trip on the Murray Darling trip back during the drought?

So Dutton has appointed 10 women to his shadow cabinet……..

There weren't many men with any capacity left……..but a little too obvious to my mind………….

Brilliant. My big fear was that Albo would shoot himself and the Labor party in the foot during the election, but they played it close to the chest and didn't get distracted.
After 50 or so years of paying attention to Oz politics i know I shouldn't get my hopes up, but I am a tad optimistic.

Albo has a lot of authority by dint of being an ALP PM. And the Senate situation can be played to keep the factions quiet. But I do think their strict parlimentary voting rule might get up and bite them in what is an intersting and diverse parliament. I think it's had it's day, as do I think the featherbedding of factional picks is long past it's use by date.

He's a nasty piece of work. Purchase two made in USA nuclear subs?......He has been winging a deal with USA with no bipartisan input whatsoever......... he talks to the Australian newspaper about it while dissing the new Govt ? all the while while bleating about bi partisanship? He's a conniving snake now onto his next hobby horse of deporting NZ citizens convicted of criminal behaviour! They have done their time, that should be the end of it! Instead he wants to mark them for life! Doesnt count if theyve been here for 30 years and have extended family etc etc...... I'd love to see the SOB do some time......for trying to gain political advantage from peoples misfortune again and again with refugees.

Future PM? ...of a future Police State. Not going to happen. Hopefully the election is a true indication that the electorate has moved on. Got to keep the pressure on though to shut Murdoch down by invalidating his media voice.

The decreasing relevance of the Right? Here is some good news.

Peter Dutton’s opposition is cranky with Labor’s move to hand a quarter of parliamentary questions to independents and The Greens based on their heightened representation!
