This goes all the way to the top I know, the very top, the PM and politicians who set the policy and circumstance but do not want to know 'officially'. Sounds to me from what I read so far that very few above senior NCO level will be 'in the gun' so to speak. Same story post 'Nam.

Ahem, I note that Gladys, following Scomo's sports rorts example, has been pork barrelling funds for her parties electorates. Meanwhile in Queensland their own form of graft is evident, also following the fed's example.
    All from 7.30…… fascinating………
Then there's the small matter of the misuse of a RAAF jet by an ex pollie…….. Fascinating eh?

    Oh Peter, where are you?

The moment seems to have come when China has told Aus to make a choice. Knuckle under, do what we tell you or suffer the economic consequences. Peter and I discussed this moment at length for years and now it has come.

    I'm wondering if Scotty and Marise had any idea that Israel was planning this follow up to the securing of Kylie Moore Gilbert's freedom;

Top Iranian scientist linked to military nuclear program 'assassinated', state TV says

........did Donny two scoops know in advance?

Trump himself retweeted a posting from Israeli journalist Yossi Melman, an expert on the Israeli Mossad intelligence service, about the killing. Melman's tweet called the killing a "major psychological and professional blow for Iran".

.......... and as an aside ( sort of ) was Pine Gap used in tracking and surveillance?

I feel sorry for Kylie, being caught up at the centre of this mess. She seems genuine enough, although neive.

Somehow I don't think that Scomo is making things better with China. Maybe he thought that don would win and was currying favour? Maybe he thought it would distract from the Afghanistan disaster so no one would ask why we were there in the first place?
This is a product of the LibNat RW as usual, and more about internal power than foreign relations.

The Chinese have banned Aussuie coal shipments, where that leaves dozens of loaded ships off the Chinese coast I cannot imagine. But if it goes on too long it may never restart in any substantial way, and Clives coal will remain a stranded 'asset'. Of course it depends what sort of coal is wanted, losely Qld coal is heating coal, NSW is coking coal for steel making and Victorian anthracite is steaming coal. Not much call for steam engines these days…..
Oh yes, it seems that businesses connected with coal and oil interests are having trouble getting insurance cover, even small business quite closely connected.

I seem to be as lone voice here, but i could not pass on tonights gem, a call for the Federal government to fund the ''shoring up'' of the east coast of Australia!
More is to come of course so the forecasts say. And in the longer run of course any property 'on the edge' will not survive.

Need some company Skuthorp? Here we go!

.......speaking of shoring up the coast, there is one section of real estate here on the Peninsula that seems to be getting more attention than the average. The Eastern Sister at Sullivans Cove, Victoria's first settlement, that was having erosion issues like many beaches and cliffs around the bay. Somehow without any overt lobbying there is now a sizeable rock wall with a walkway on top that provides effective protection ( for the time being ) for the exclusive top tier little land parcels where connected old money families have built their beach houses. It's interesting to note that the developer ( who married into the Myer Family ) managed to convince the then State Liberal Govt to sell the then state owned land, the people's land, to him so he could divvy it up into a few exclusive beach front cliff top blocks. This same 'white collar criminal' was behind the effort to grab the Point Nepean Quarantine Station for developing into an exclusive resort during the lead up to the election when the Libs last lost govt. The deal was done and if the LIBS had won Point Nepean would now be lost to the people of Victoria. I get angry old man syndrome every time I think about it!! F'N SCUMBAGS!

Yes, we had a house in Sorrento/Blairgowrie, off St John's Wood Road at the time and it was all done very sneakily with vast amounts of 'donations' to the party, and maybe to the minister as well.
I rather hope they all fall into ther bay.

Saw a story in today's NY Times about the Chinese ending imports of Australian coal.

Seems like a fairly huge development for Australia's economy (and politics). Isn't the present government pretty much a service bureau for the mining industry?

Oh it's 'huge' alright. It has the potential to stop the industry in it's tracks. And certainly any proposed mines are likely stranded assets. Our PM had a soft spot for donald I think and thought he'd win again. He went out o a limb demanding an enquiry into the sorce of Corona virus (virtually inferring that the Chinese had manufactured it) and China was not pleased. Our economy has been allowed to become far too reliant on China, and with the weakening of the US are demanding from us the kow towing we have been according the US since WW2. Some of us, including Peter Sibley, have been discussing this change for the last 10 years or so at least.
An added problem for us and the world is the use of virtual slave labour in the Chinese cotton industry which produces a big percentage of the world's cotton, and garments. We no longer produce such because China can do it cheaper using forced labour.

Of course all Aussie PM's, with the possible exception of Whitlam, have tugged their forelock and followed the US's instructions sinc WW2. Now the chickens have come home to roost.
I'll suspend judgement on the new admin. till I see just what Joe and Kamala can achieve, but just getting any sort of control of the virus is going to occupy much of their time and money for a while yet.

Our present Government has displayed continuing ineptitude in dealing with foreign policy but the broader problematic stance goes back a long way.

There is some excellent independent journalism on the subject of Oz China trade and relationship:

Australia, China and the weaponising of trade - Pearls and IrritationsPearls and Irritations
    JOHN MENADUE

The conflict between Australia and China worsens with each passing day. The latest piece of news, China’s ‘indefinite’ pause in coal imports from Australia shows just how dangerous is the game that Australia is playing.

Racism, fear and lack of moral courage sees Australia tied to a declining America, suffering, as a result, a lack of self-respect, independence and a viable and progressive relationship with our largest trading partner..........

    .........
Asia sees Australia much as Africa viewed white Apartheid South Africa. They are waiting for basic change to take place. They are waiting for Australia to find the guts to establish its place in the region, and the world, independent of the old failing firm.

    G'day Juan

    Climate change:
It seems that temperature records in Aus have already topped briefly 1.4+ degrees above the standard international pre-industrial mark. 1.5 being the mark everyone is attempting to miss.
And 1% of the worlds population exceed the emissions of 50% of the rest.
    The experiment continues.

Vic to use military to monitor border, but I think it inevitable that there will be a leakage into the state. Hopefully not before xmas.

    Only took 30 minutes though.

we cancelled an excursion into the city today, little fella's brithday party - visit to the museum with his mates and then an activty thingy.
We just couldn't take the risk of being somewhere at the same time as someone who later finds they're positive, and even if nothing is transmitted, forcing a two week lock down on all those famillies over the whole of christmas.

As it was, the other parents were quite fine about us going in. Maybe they were just being nice to my little guy.

Got them to make a dice each using some Iron Bark i have. then they used them to play various games and decide their turns at different things.
The friends were all keen, my little guy not so much. friggin around with tools and wood is what you do every day - boring!

Well well, It seems that Grocon is 'technically insolvent'. Blames the legal stoush over the Crown Barangaroo build and 'delays'.
The whole Crown /Packer/Barangaroo/NSW Government affair was very dodgy right from the gift of the site to Crown over public interest, the only interets being served being that of party finances and supposed post-dated bribes as usual.
It'd be nice if they made them pul lit down and return the site to the public.

grocon insolvent. (whole page of reading references here if you are interested)

So Scomo has changed a few words in the national anthem to include aborigines without actually mentioning them.
On another note this is interesting but I think the ABC needs a proofreader.
