Hmm, noises off about Land Tax changes (Adelaide at present) that may achieve the same result as Labour's plans. Difference being a tax change (being administrative) is not likely to be grandfathered.
Haven't got the time to have a good look yet but taxes are seldom reduced.

Glad to hear some of the benefactors agreeing.

The .... “I’ve-done-it-all-on-my-own” mentality is extraordinarily delusional, harmful, and counterproductive. Collective goods – like a sound infrastructure system, a strong K-12 and higher education systems, and rule of law – are critical ingredients to building both individual and societal economic prosperity.

If all it takes is 'doing it on your own' to get rich, why don't our business people build their businesses in the Democratic Republic of the Congo? Labour is cheap - IR is unheard of.....

One thing the author doesn't seem to touch is that, not only is there a robust and functioning legal system - but the populace CHOOSES to fall into line.
It is this choice, above everything else, that makes their (rich peoples) personal prosperity possible.
Inequality, and populist politics, are factors that can undermine this choice. If the populace ever believes that not falling into to line will reap greater rewards.......

This is something the hyper rich don't have to think about. They have the resources to move their capital quickly and buy golden passports at will.
Everyone else on the other hand HAS to make society work.

I see that not only scomo has caught the donald disease, isolationism rears its head as scomo quotes Howard "we will decide……………" over UN climate change efforts, and Greta's campaign no doubt.
And the usual American rubbish on socialism came home on Shark 1 as well it seems.

And guess where that came from……….

He says he knows of more than 40 people who have been either accused of child sex abuse, or convicted of it.

"And quite a lot of them have been or are in jail. In most cases I don't know what they did," he says.

Two years ago, the NAFC sent a proposal on behalf of all states and territories to Canberra for an annual increase of $11 million above its existing $15 million funding, which would contribute to contracting large water-bombing aircraft from countries such as the US.

They still haven't received a decision from the Federal Government.

Background Briefing has obtained documents that show the proportion of federal funding for NAFC has more than halved since 2003.

Minister for Natural Disaster and Emergency Management David Littleproud said he would raise the business case at the next Ministerial Council meeting.

"We haven't made a decision around the aerial assets," he told Background Briefing. "We'll continue to work with the states in a mature way."

He said the Government was cognisant firefighting resources were going to be needed for longer periods in more jurisdictions than before and was committed to finding solutions.

The cost of natural disasters is projected to reach an average of $39 billion by 2050.

Was this actually a message for farmers?

Friday's commitment is the fourth set of changes announced to the program in a little over a year and which seem to have overlooked the key recommendation of an independent review, that said FHA should be administered by an authority other than Centrelink.

Adding some confusion, and possibly insult to others on support payments, Mr Morrison said rural Australians "work hard" and what his government was offering farmers "isn't welfare".

"This is really just helping people make sure that they maintain a viability," he said.
Isn't that last sentence a definition of what welfare is?

Given the PM's treatment when in the USA and his recent speech at the Lowy Institute i'm thinking things are all primed for a move from Rupert / Newscorp / IPA in the near future. Any bets?

This religious discrimination bill, has any objective group identified how it will make things better or what is happening now that won't happen if it is enacted?

The world is going through a major political and social realignment as the power bases shift, and too quickly for our present day rulers to adjust their loyalties and their cosy arrangements. Pulling up the drawbridge seems to be their present patch up job. Won't work though.

As for local matters, anyone recall the 25% rule?

I've been pondering this as well. I think the rise of social media is having a big effect...bigger than we realise.

Nat 'leader' on tele this morning being asked about drought policy keeps deflecting to slating what the Labour party would not do. He keeps being told that he is in government, not labour. Not at all imprtessive. A complete continuous babble without an obvious breath I wonder if he's tried playing the didge?

I don't think they actually have a plan or a policy. It seems they not only don't know which areas are worst effected but they don't know how many farmers are effected.

So the taxpayer, through the government, has been funding large private dams, particularly in the Murrumbidge valley, most owned by Websters, the water retailer. The government hopefully knows how many and how much, but will not release the information.
Public capital funding for private profits. It's not even a loan, and the 'water saving' figures are 'muddy'.

They have been pushing more efficient use of water which is fine but it's meant less run off back into the rivers. Also the saved water has encouraged farmers to open up more marginal land to irrigation which means any reduction in water use gets used so there is no savings and the rivers lose the runoff. So instead of a saving in water use there is actually an increase in water use. Now they are getting upset because they have no water and they are seeing environmental flows go past their farms which they can't use.

Bizarrely the data shows the Warnambool is in drought, hence drought relief - I wonder will they pay as much attention to data when it comes to the next round of carbon targets....?

There seems to be some interference in the speaker list for a Cyber-Security conference from a ''co-partner'', ie the State, ie Dutton. Topics were to do with whistleblowing, and secure drop box technology. It sems also that Australia's 'regressive' attitude to encryption might interfere with present treaties on the subject.

Oh yes, Nuke powered Aussie subs? I always thought that that was already decided but not made public.
