    Robodebt strikes again.
    https://www.theguardian.com/australi...rn?CMP=soc_567

In total, Prgic is facing about $30,000 in alleged debts – including about $20,000 likely to have been raised through the robodebt scheme. Those debts, for parenting payment and Newstart, were accrued because Centrelink claims she did not report her earnings correctly.
She disputed owing the money and she said she had been given no evidence for how the debts were calculated.
But she was most frustrated that the agency had taken her tax return without telling her. She had planned to use the money to get into a new home.
“They’ve taken $3,500 of my tax return ... They’ve taken $560 from my family tax benefit,” she said. “They’ve taken $4,000 in the last few weeks. If you have $3,500 that’s pretty much a bond and your month’s rent to get into a place.”
At first, they had told her she couldn’t get the money back as she was “not in financial hardship”, Prgic added.

I watched it Gary, interesting, tragic, very scary if I had kids. Too late, far too late to do more than we have always done. And that is just pushing s… up hill acting local.

Next weeks 4 corners should be interesting too. Dodgy apartment buildings, hundreds of them, and the risible laws that allow them to be built by phenix companies leaving owners to hold the baby…..so to speak.
And then of course what to do with blocks of worthless apartments that might just fall down?.

I would rather Jeff's cynical reality than the belief that we can just keep doing what we have been doing to the planet and life will be just hunky dory.

Last year, Australia joined all members of the Pacific Islands Forum in endorsing the Boe Declaration on Regional Security. Which country gives the most aid to the Pacific?

The answer might surprise you, writes Stephen Dziedzic.

The declaration reaffirms climate change as the single biggest threat to the livelihoods, security and wellbeing of the people of the Pacific and members' commitment to the Paris Agreement.
But Australia's actions tell a different story. In the year following that historic declaration, Australia's emissions have continued to climb and the Government has approved the opening up of the Galilee coal basin. It has stated it will not make further contributions to the Green Climate Fund — a critical source of support to vulnerable communities — and has refused thus far to heed the UN Secretary-General's call for all countries to strengthen their commitments to the Paris Agreement before 2020.

I think there are difficulties wit the conference communique, Morrison wont sign anything that mentions coal negatively.
And anyhow it seems that PNG is dallying with Chinese investment. That's very close to home and likely more relevant.

Dallying? China pretty much owns PNG. Australia made many aid consultants rich over many years but backed off years ago. Meanwhile China has been building stuff.

    https://www.theguardian.com/commenti...out-of-control

    http://saveourschools.com.au/funding...-in-australia/

total government funding per student in public schools adjusted for inflation (“real funding”) was cut between 2009 and 2017 while funding for Catholic and Independent schools increased massively. Even during the Gonski funding period of 2013-2017 the funding increase for private schools was over three times the increase for public schools.
The Coalition government continues to increase capital funding of private schools. Department of Education figures supplied to Senate Estimates in 2017 show they will get $1.9bn in capital funding from 2018 to 2027. There is no equivalent capital funding for public schools.
It denies much-needed resources for disadvantaged public schools facing severe shortages in teaching staff, educational materials and modern classroom buildings and equipment.

Here - I just spent 30 seconds googling NSW capex:

The NSW Government is investing $6.7 billion over the next four years to deliver 190 new and upgraded schools to support communities across NSW. In addition, a record $1.3 billion is being spent on school maintenance over five years, along with a record $500 million for the sustainable Cooler Classrooms program to provide air conditioning to schools. This is the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.

States are responsible for the delivery of school education

In line with their responsibility for the delivery of school education, states and territories are the majority public funder of government schools (with 65.4 per cent of students) and the Australian Government is a minority public funder of the government sector.
The Australian Government has historically been the majority public funder for non-government schools (with 34.6 per cent of students) reflecting its commitment to supporting parental choice and diversity in the schooling system. State governments are minority public funders of the non-government sector.
Australian Government funding to non-government schools takes into account the capacity of school communities to contribute to their school's operating costs, for example the ability of parents to pay school fees.
