Tried applying for a working with children card today, new Yacht Club requirement. No luck with the website even at 10pm.

And now Derryn…………………. and someone from Labour? Don't have a name.

No doubt about it, the constitution needs an update. Good luck with that though.

That proposal should get bipartisan support though.

SA Education dept has put out a statement saying we respect a wide variety of religions and cultures in our schools, but stories of magic reindeer and even more magic pregnancies are here to stay. Bit of common sense I reckon.

Thats just paranoia - nobody is blaming Australians today for what happened in the past.

Many Australians (unconstructively) carry guilt around but, its my observation, this is mostly people feel bad because, for whatever reason, Aboriginal people continue to be second class citizens in this supposedly egalitarian country. Also, modern Australia continues to ignore the fact that Aboriginal people were here first, they owned the land (which was the law when Cook 'discovered' Australia) and they never ceded this land to anyone - it was taken and continues to be kept by other people.

Its the continue word that matters.

Massacres for the most part didn't happen in the 1700's - there was only a bunch of people in Sydney Cove in the 18th Century, the Massacres were late 19th and early 20th century. Usually pastoralists who needed to clear the land in order to assert that it was theirs.

    Absolutely.

If i was North Korea, I'd just declare all Australian Politicians to be citizens of NK - and that they have the right to enjoy all the privilegs of that citizenship. (can't think of a privilege yet, but if it exists in NK they can have it).
That would clear out the whole lot of them and we could start again.

Actually; Christmas was Ireland's gift to the world.

It was a pagan belief that someday the days would continue to get darker through winter, until there was no light, and everything would die.

In Newgrange, just outside Dublin, they built a special building to monitor the movement of the sun.
Only on one day a year, the shortest day - about 22nd of Dec, the sun strikes the back wall of the building through the tunnel leading into it. A couple of days later the druids could emerge and confirm that the days were getting longer again.

Hence the idea of 'Being Saved' and 'Rebirth'.
It was subsumed, like many other pagan traditions and rituals, into Christian practices.

So as an Irishman i find it offensive that people continue to refer to the sacred Winter Solstice as Christmas.

Show me an acre of land on any continent, and you can probably include Antarctica (although it wasn't inhabited), that hasn't been taken and held.

Show me also, please, where there's room in this country for tribal customs that include rape as a punishment?

Try this article as a starting point to understanding the behaviour of the 19th century. The society that "the invaders" found was a brutalistic one... and they responded to acts of brutality in the same manner.

    Hey Big Fella,
I'm not keen on you putting words in my mouth.
I never suggested invasion was uncommon - and i don't accept that frequency makes it all okay.
I certainly never suggested that rape was fine, nor did i call for primitive customs to become our daily practice.

As for Quadrant Magazine, i used it as toilet paper once but it gave my freckle a rash.

    Yep...always!
You would not recognize nice if it crawled up your leg and gnawed off your left...well, you know the rest.
Do you actually not realize what an obnoxious persona you present here?
Not that you are obnoxious at all...just that you project obnoxiousness!
Obnoxiousness comes as naturally to you as purity comes to Jesus.

Maybe that "projection" you perceive says more about you than me ?

Nope, you're grasping at straws! It's about you and your assumption of superiority.
Nobody recognizes your superiority but you. You're all alone with your dinner date...what's her name? Luigi! Excellent!

It's no assumption. Blokes like you and PS prove it .

Alone with my dinner date? You're making assumptions that just keep adding to the proof I mentioned. Tonight's only four of us, but I just booked a table for 16 for Saturday. You're not invited.

You should try socialising... you might lose some of that apparent inferiority complex that you keep displaying when you launch these attacks of yours. They never do work out for you, do they?

Very lame commentary from such a superior being as yourself.
    Try to do better.
Meanwhile, do you deny that you consider yourself to be superior to me and to most other people?
    No?
