The funding was used to support the centre’s post-2015 UN development goals project that found limiting global temperature rises to 2C was a poor investment.
A breakdown of costs released on Thursday shows that $482,000 of the Australian funding was spent on professional fees and services including research, “outreach” and forums.

About $146,000 was spent on travel in an ambitious global project convening seminars to discuss the UN development goals in Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa and New York.

It's a pity that the Labor/Greens made structural changes to the economy that resulted in the government paying $20 billion a year to the banks then, eh?

Headline in The Saturday Paper: The Year of the Whiteant and a pic of Tony , but that problem is common to both majors and has been for some time. Set to continue I'd say.

True that, we'd just like Malcolm to stop being ruled by the ghost of Abbotts past. Labor had Rudd and you poor souls have Abbott.... turns out they are pretty similar.

Yes, those banks are so valuable - we should definitely put them on the first spaceship out, along with their fan club. Might not need much room for the fan club.

Silly argument that one, in his latter years my dad stood a wartime mate the price of seed and fertiliser for his wheat and barley farm after 10 dry years. For a piece of the action of course. The rains came, Suntory bought the barley and they made a big profit. Big enough to pay the bank loans off. Dad bought another sports car, at 90. Why not.
Dad stood banker for his mate, the banks got paid, they were offering credit the next year.
It's how the system works and Mallee farmers are very familiar with it. Now I'm no fan of the banks but they are not in the business of being farmers. The demise of the local bank manager with local knowledge and authority has made things much more difficult, to a city accountant one farmer is just like any other, numbers. But my 'investment' in the bank helps finance a farmer in a bad year, and I make interest, theoretically', when he has a good one and pays it back.
Dairy farmers down our way are having a very tough time as milkers, but cropping is paying well. Chick peas, bush peas, beans, canola and stockfeeds are doing well.
As long as everyone plays fair and doesn't get greedy the system works.
Likely though the supply chain makes the biggest profit, and the big supermarkets screw the farmer for a sub.

A friend of mine years ago found a middle way. He bought a small block, 200 acres, near Armidale at a time when get big or get out was the word. He bought it cash as the locals regarded it as too small but it had been a viable farm until shortly before. Rather than go to the bank he used savings and bought old gear at auction for a pittance. a 65hp Inter, implements and an Alcrop harvester. No debt.

Good years he would crop, bad years, he would let the place to neighbours to graze and go away for work. He did well and is still at it.

Stay away from the banks if at all possible.

Where did I ever say the banks are beyond reproach?

Why does the left always put words in the mouth of anyone who isn't a business hater?

Then might I suggest that instead of a blanket defence response you state on the whole banks have performed good service to the farmers. However there have been some extremely dodgy practices carried out that have resulted in some farmers losing their farms and in some cases farmers have taken their lives as a result.
What's this "business hater" garbage? No one hates business, just bad business.

and Abetz' answer to this is to become even conservative, more Hansonish and thus leave behind all the Liberals who are actually liberal. People like my BIL who after 30 years voting Liberal voted Green when Abbott was PM as he couldn't stand Abbott or his policies.
