Indeed Gary, very interesting and a very plausible scenario supported by history.

So we have to take them, because we made a promise to the UN.
But we don't have to be nice to them.
In fact, we can be complete c#'s to them. We can not only make off shore detention so disgusting, we can even make their conditions in Australia so bad that returning to torture and death is preferable.

    The current Australian asylum seekers policy seems to be;
Make their security and stability tenuous, tell everyone that they may be kicked out, point out how broken they are to everyone and then break them a little more - that is, reduce them to sub-human and make them unemployable. Then force them to, get work they can't possibly get or starve, especially if they try and actually get involved and become contributing proud human beings.

many others who were brought to Australia for acute medical or mental health problems, including elderly people, have also been told to support themselves.

Dutton is slime but that seems to be a requirement for the position of Official Discourager of Refugees.

I rather take the attitude that anyone going into politics for ethical and idealistic reasons cannot last.
The ones that do are either sociopaths, psychopaths or a combination of both.
That is probably a little unkind, but the system and the job would soon herd you into those categories despite yourself.

And I guess in reality it's the power trip, and the party organisations that are the truly evil part of the Business.

But the horror of it is that after nearly 20 years of anti refugee propaganda the populace has been turn and no party, bar the Greens, is game to say a word about our little concentration camps, other than to praise and promise to continue indefinite detention of the innocent.

Not politics, but driest autumn since 1902.

Although dry conditions had been a feature over significant parts of the continent since 1894, it was only this year (1902 that large-scale drought began to become genuinely disastrous.
January and February were wet over Tasmania, but distinctly dry further north, and despite a heavy storm over southern Victoria and the settled areas of South Australia, March continued the trend of complete summer rainfall failure in New South Wales and Queensland. Most areas of those two states had their lowest rainfall for the November to March period on record, and April was even worse—being averaged over Australia, the driest month of the twentieth century, with a rainfall of only 3 millimetres (0.12 in). Sheep and cattle over the inland pastoral districts were already starving, and so extensive was the drought that agistment was not available in any place to which transport could be arranged. The result was that sheep died in numbers that have never been equalled before or since: some sources estimate that half the sheep population was lost in the drought.[10]
Although in southwestern Australia—often looked upon as a "saviour" when the rains fail further east—the rainy season began on time in May, the dry weather continued without a break in the eastern states. Then, despite June being quite wet in southern Victoria, Tasmania and even parts of South Australia, the month's rain was associated with cold outbreaks that produced extremely severe frosts and several cases of low-level snowfalls. Oatlands recorded a temperature as low as −12 C (10 F) during one of these outbreaks, and snow fell in Hobart. Worse still,[10] northern New South Wales and southern Queensland remained as dry as ever, and southwestern Australia was very dry.
Despite torrential rains in July around Eden and heavy rains in the far southwest of Western Australia, rainless or near-rainless conditions continued elsewhere with extremely severe frosts. August was the driest-ever winter month in Perth with only 12 millimetres (0.47 in), and Melbourne, equally dry, set a record for lowest mean August minimum temperature at 4.5 C (40.1 F) broken only in 1943 and 1944.[11]
Though September was wet over southern Western Australia and a single heavy storm produced above-average rainfall in eastern Tasmania and southern Victoria, and October saw very heavy coastal rains in New South Wales (Sydney's 162 millimetres (6.38 in) on the 13th is still its wettest-ever October day), unrelenting dryness inland combined with hot northerly winds saw one of the worst dust storms ever hit Melbourne on 12 November.[12] Any hope for the wheat crop had gone as early as the end of August, and yields were close to the worst ever.
Although November 1902 later proved a very wet month in a band of country between about Southern Crossand Jundah, it was still very dry in more coastal areas.

Feds rumoured to be about to ban Wahwei from the 5G contracts, the Chinese are expected to get formally upset, but they should not be surprised.
    Then there's the Solomons cable.
Maybe they are looking askance at the US and beginning to get our act together.

BTW, Wahwei have just opened a very fancy shopfront in Mornington, a rather upmarket shopping strip.

I understand the evolutionary roots of rape but then murdering the women thus inseminated is insane . We are a nasty species.

Probably left the Special Forces and by now is working with some Australian neo nazi group or one of those private para military security groups employed by US defence to "keep the peace" and escort US business interests in areas of hostility! Any bet that pic is on the dark web somewhere dating back sometime near when it was originally taken?

SASR members are usually rotated back to training roles as the shelf life is fairly brief for ops front line stuff. Maybe 35yo max. I did some liaison work with them some years back. BRIG D'Hage was the head fella.

I'm not sure how anyone could come back to the reality of civilian life after that kind of job. Thousands of veterans of 'normal' wars struggled and still do. My father amongst them. Thirty five means say 15 - 20 years service in special forces?

#21622 Nah, They take them as mid 20s plus a bit. The selection course over several months is very mentally and physically tough. CDOs is a comparative doddle as they were only reservists and there lies the current matter, folk fail to differentiate the two.
