Useless info... The design for the 911 was actually one with a zero in the middle. BUT, since Peugeot had a lock on all production model numbers with a zero in the middle, Porsche had to use the next number with out one. Hence the 911, and a legend.

Don't actually remember which number was the original? Not 904, 908 or 910, which would have passed. Maybe 909?

901...this is #54 0f the 75 that were built before the suit. A guy found it with big IMSA flares and monster tires in a chicken coop near Reno and restored it once he checked the casting numbers. This was from the vintage races at PIR in '88. Sorry about the photo, but I was too lazy to hook up my scanner

It's much earlier than that I think, 1920's, and is there a shadow of a sliding pillar front suspension?
Of course it could be someones wartime patch-up………..
Or this one perhaps. "old unidentified French car'.

but it has (I think) a jet powered hood emblem, which may date the image but knot the car

And yes sliding pillar, friction shocks and maybe a glimpse of an air cooled V-twin behind that grille...
The windshield pillar brackets are distinctive

Car is definitely French, and hacked around a bit, with a later grille- I would guess originally from around 1930?
Could be a three wheeler Darmont Morgan- that gear lever looks familiar.

PS: A bit of later Googling confirms it is indeed a Darmont Morgan, with later modifications, and that the pic was taken in 1947 by Robert Doisneau.
But to confuse things further, another source has the pic from 1956.
It appears in a book about Darmont Morgan by Frederic Viginies.

I have some good friends that have an MG TC with cycle fenders and the missing side engine cowling. Their car looks very similar.

I linked a friend to this thread. He is a longtime MG enthusiast, along with restorations on Astons and Delahayes (used to race one of those)
Well, he came straight back with the info that the green PB Airline in post 18 was his car at one time.
He has a stock TD now.

here's a fun one, bill mitchell's personal 1956 corvette racecar
a stock corvette weighed 2900 pounds and made 225 horsepower
this one weighed 2200 and billy mitchell had smokey yunich build him a 283 motor that made 325 horsepower
he personally drove it in time trials at daytona (went 152mph in the flying mile) and raced it at 12 hours of sebring and nassau finishing tenth and sixteenth
