Having recently replenished my stocks of car images I will trickle a few into the thread in the next few days.

Getting gas is an issue for this beast. Not so bad Spring and Fall, but Summer often requires Av gas. He added extra gaskets between the injection unit and the block, which helps lessen vapor-lock issues.

    Thank you, Peter.

More oddball fibreglass, and probably the first car we have had from South Africa- the GSM Flamingo.
GSM stood for Glass Sport Motors; their earlier car, the Dart/Delta was also built in the UK. Gordon Murray owns a Flamingo....

A bit too much something for me.
Reminds me a bit of WW1 dazzle camouflage.

You may not have found the interior too restful then.

I've always loved the Voisin but the interiors and paint were a bit much. Mechanically they are fascinating.

More oddball fibreglass- the Cox GTM. A kit car that used Mini mechanicals- there is one just down the road from me that seems to need rescuing.

I had one of those, great little car and I do mean little. That looks like a fairly late example after they moved away from ten inch wheels.Good thing your example is a long way away or temptation might just get the better of me.

To get back to Voisins with "vibrant" colour schemes-this one will take some beating.

A GN for Robert- probably the oldest surviving car, Mark Walker's 1914 Grand Prix GN.
Wooden chassis, wire and bobbin steering, and belt drive.
From the cover of the latest issue of 'The Automobile'.
Not too sure about the colour.
Mark recently drove it to Montlhery, south of Paris, and back.

Went to a car auction today (just boring cars generally) - but today there was a 72 Lotus Elan.

    LOTUS.jpg

The pic makes it look better than it is. Barn find (truly - 28 years in a dirt floor barn in northern VT). Paint is awful, door latches broken, cheap aftermarket mirrors, peeled varnish on the entire dash, rough trunk interior, tired top & tonneau, clutch pedal took 100 lbs pressure, brake pedal went to the floor, & last but not least - no one had tried to get it to even turn over, much less run. Bunch of keys, but none fit the car.

The auction does both in person & internet bidding & 100% of the bidding was on-line. Went for $11,500 + 15% buyer's premium - so 13, 225 + trucking. I realize a good restored one will bring 35-30K - but this one needed a frame up restoration.

I turned down a registered, running Elan back in the 70's for $500.

I posted this one on my Goodwood thread-which sunk with very little trace.

    DSCN2658.jpg

I liked the speedometer in the centre of the steering wheel and I would like to think the small number of spokes in the steering wheel is a nod to Andre Lefebvre's efforts at Citroen.

Does the # of spokes in the steering wheel correlate with the # holding the wheel rims on?

Yes, I know 3 points establish a plane...

Well if you have ever seen a Citroen DS steering wheel and looked into the history of the car,you might be aware that the original design called for the road wheels to be secured with the same number of nuts as there are spokes on the steering wheel.

Didn't know that. Always found the DS wheel a little spooky. What a comfortable car though!

    Back to Italian class.
Way back, a pal had one of these that I was allowed to drive at times. He only kept it for a few years.
Went to see him last week- he's 90 now and had dug out some photos of himself rebuilding the engine.

GM inflicted that horrible design feature on us in Oz too... but not so well done.

I had the misfortune of owning a couple of Calais - the top of the Commodore line - first up a 5 litre V8 and then the 3 litre turbo model (using the Nissan RB30 engine). I made sure to have my cars fitted with Momo steering wheels to get away from this horror

edited to add - it was whilst driving those horrors that I encountered my first BMW - a miserable little 325e if I recall correctly. The car gave me a whole new feel for quality in the way it drove and the way the switchgear felt. An amazing difference.
