Spring has sprung, I de webbed the side by side/ quadbike from its winter home and drove it today.

I chose this snap because it looks like I shouldn't have parked under the trees.
There's a cars and coffee thing about an hour North, if the weather stays good I might go.
check oil and vac the carpets...maintenance done for the year.

Back in '73 friend was talking about building a car. I did the chassis design and suspension, along with the welding of the frame.DSCN0160 (1).jpgDSCN0160 (1).jpgDSCN0160 (1).jpg
It had an Alfa 1750 with a VW box. We made the mould and had the bell housing cast in ally.
It originally had a slightly cobbled GRP body. The one in the pic is more recent. At under 500kg and around 140 hp, it was a blast to drive, street legal too. Topped out at a bit over 150mph.
Friend still competes in events with it.

Edit: Not quite sure why the pic is there three times. PC expert, not moi!

Fun little drive on empty roads, maybe 45 mins or so North to a small cars and coffee event.

    A couple more from yesterday.
This SS restomod 65 was impressive. I had a 4 door 67 which I put a 427 in when I was a kid, Moby Dick , the great white whale. They are such boats.
    20220918_104732.jpg
I'm really fond of 55's. We didn't get 2 doors here , probably a few direct imports but dealer cars were all utilitarian 4 door post cars with the very occasional 4 door hardtop. This looks like a real 2 door post , it had wind downs , but as we know there are way more 2 doors than were made at the factory. This one first reg here in 2011.
    20220918_102001.jpg
Try for a third. Your classic Kiwi new 4 door 56, just have to love it.

Here is a more recent resto. Ginetta G4. Local friend bought a heap of bits and I rebuilt the chassis, a round tube space frame. Well rotted and quite distorted after an accident.
Ford 1500cc with twin Webers, slightly offset. Lightly tuned to 100hp.

    fascinating history to this car

the only convertible miura ever built
and while lamborghini was chopping the top they decided to show that gourgeous engine off as well
    this was in 1968

    lamborghini-miura-roadster (1).jpg

    lamborghini-miura-roadster (2).jpg

so, a few years later ILZRO was looking for a vehicle to show off its technologies with and they approached lamborghini
the International Lead Zinc Research Organisation, in case you were wondering
lamborghini didn't want to sell them a production car, worried about how ILZRO's work may taint their lineup's image
so they instead sold them the convertible miura prototype
they repainted it, used it for a couple of years then put in storage
in 1980 the current owner bought it for $12k!!! then restored it to its original form

^ A total steal of course considering their value today. Yet 12 k was probably about or less than my annual income in 1980 and was about 1/4 to 1/3 of the value of a very cheap entry level house. Which would be roughly about 250 to 300 k proportionally today for that house . I know thats nowhere near their cost these days but still way off in wish list land, not really acheivable for mere mortals.

A little video someone put together of the Portland British Field meet. Shows how smoky it was! You get a brief glimpse of my MGB with the huge driving lamps (not even hooked up) at 8:10 over the top of the TD with the Brit Flag grille.

From the bird in the hand file, I just drove my mundane little car 312 Kilometres on the Nurburgring of NZ. 2 hours of light to moderate traffic pacing along quite fine, an hour and a half of lovely stuff on my favourite highway.
Many NZ highways are B roads anywhere else... 2 lanes, twisty.

MGB 60 th celebration car show tomorrow so I thought I'd go. C's and V8's etc invited as well.

Pretty sure we have not had a Bayliss Thomas before.
    From around 1926-28 I think.
One lives about ten miles away from me.

Considering how many vehicles are built to the Systeme Panhard layout we perhaps ought to have the real thing once in a while.

This is rare. One of 25 Costello V8's.
Costello came up with the idea of fitting the Buick V8 in these cars, worked it out and went into bespoke production. BMC or BL ( whichever it was at the time) took the idea and the methods , put it into production themselves and declined to sell Costello any more engines.

    20220925_133850.jpg
One or three RV8's there, one in the background. I like them, they're tempting... but just can't do the interior .

10 MGC's there, one is the red one in that pic. An American car converted to RHD and imported here. 3 windscreen wipers is the first giveaway.

Another I don't remember seeing on here- a 1923 Beardmore Sports.
I believe there are only two survivors of this model. The firm went on to build London taxi cabs..

Saw a lovely red MGB roadster in imaculate condition in Coatesville this afternoon. Initially wondered if it might be a certain MGC. I found it far more appealing than the McLaren 620 that was also in the cafe car park. For some reason I omitted to take a pic.

Somewhere on my phone I've got a whole load of Morris 1000s from Wenderholm and Model As from Waihi I never got round to posting - probably because ther weren't very sporty - although there were pickup types of each, maybe there's another thread for them.

There was between 70 and 80 B variants there so plenty out and about.
A few others as well, some TA, TC , D and A.
