In 1953, Phase II began and a Swiss company called AMAG took over the assembly of the vehicles. The Vanguard models produced during Phase II had a much more contemporary design and had many improvements. The rear window was larger, the boot was bigger, and the clutch used a hydraulic configuration. The anti-roll bars were also thrown out, but wider tyres were incorporated into the design to help increase handling. A diesel version was introduced in 1954, but the extra weight of the engine and beefed up chassis reduced the car's performance by quite a bit.
I'll bet the Diesel variation is rare!

this one is pretty special, one of twelve built for racing with a two liter fuel injected engine, twin cam four valve engine, twin spark plugs per cylinder, five speed, and all aluminium body. . .

To put his front-wheel-drive concept to the test Christie entered his cars in track racing. The first racing car appeared on the race track in January of 1904. This way he hoped to promote his patented front wheel drive system, but the car wasn’t a great success. His racer gained a reputation for heavy steering and challenging handling, the result of an extreme front weight bias.

A couple Jags in town the other day. Mid '50s XK 140's, I think, but the silver one has hood vents.

A bit ostentatious, but won't last too long in the sun.

Looking at google, I don't see any that have vents on the bonnet.

Ahh here it is - Silver is an XK 120, the blue is a 140

    Introduction.
I've been lurking here for some time and love the thread. I had a Lapworth 36 in the 70's-80's, lived aboard for 4 years. I'm now back to my main interest: British sports cars. I built a JZR Morgan replica which is the most fun car I've ever owned. For more see my blog
    www.jzrusa2.blogspot.com
I tried to upload a photo. The upload manager said the max size for a jpg is 19.5Kb. That is a TINY size. I resized my pic to the dimensions shown of 620x280 but it is 74Kb. What should I do?
    Thanks,
    Fred V

I was able to download a pic but could not drag it into the "attachment" part at the bottom of the page. I have a much better photo of it finished.

You won't be able to add an attachment. The way it works is to use the picture icon in the reply box and paste the url of the image file in the box.For more detailed instructions, see Thorne's excellent guide after a quick blast on the search function.Nice car you have there btw.
