wooden boat shows...mid-Atlantic (MD)

Just a question...It appears that most...90%...of the wooden boat shows are held in Maine, RI, WA. or the Great Lakes...Except for the Annapolis week or two and the day for small craft (wooden) at the Chesapeake Bay Meritime Museum, are any held midcoast?
For those not living in the NE or NW or near the Great Lakes, these are a bit hard to attend...especially by boat.

Just checked the web site...I did manage to get to this one....mostly small boats and I don't think I am in that category of being a small boat. Missed it...just the tail end last summer...a lot of Cris Crafts...10'20' footers but nothing larger...
Mine is 34' Sail...not power...1948 Hinckley Sou'wester 34...

If this is the ACBS show in St. Micheals, your right, it is mostly smaller boats. We attend anyway with Boreal, a 41 ft. sloop, built in 1952. There are probably only a dozen or so boats larger than 30 ft.

That's the one....The museum used to hold...on its own...a bigger wooden boat show but it was cancelled last year.
If you go in 2005, let me know...we can start our own...

Uncas - We are planning on being there. Our friends who have a 60 ft. Chesapeake Buyboat are planning on showing up, as thay have the last several years.

Dale...sounds like a plan...Would be great to meet some others from the WWF.... Will be out working on my next book...on the Chesapeake and can easily make a stop there....
Also, you say your friends have a buy boat...converted? My next book is going to be Classic Boats on the Chesapeake...Work and Pleasure...would like to chat with them.

PS actual title not nailed down yet...will be spending the next two weeks in Key West with my publisher.

Don't know squat about the details, but I've seen photos taken at MAJOR Wooden Boat Shows in the far Northwest; like in the Seattle area.

Moby Nick...That is why I put this thread on here...There does not seem to be anything going on except a sputter or two in the mid-Atlantic...Everything is in the mid west ( Great Lakes )...Small classic boats, the NE ( RI ) or the far west...Heck, Wooden boat, as far as I know does not make many appearances down here...Sorry Scott if I am wrong...
I think there is a need for a little representation down here in the mid-Atlantic area as it is often too far for some of us to go...i.e., NE, NW or the Great Lakes ...timewise.
Needless to say, I would love to make it to RI next summer...the chances are better than a dead 25 watt bulb.

Uncas - My freind's buy boat was built in 1926 and is converted to pleasure use. Very well done. BTW. He like most boats owners loves to talk about his boat, so I certain he will be willing to give you some time. Although I'm thinking it might be better for you to come to Rock Hall this spring to talk to him as he would have more time. Also, there are two converted Buyboats in our marina. The owners of both, know most of the remaining buyboats and their owners on the bay.

Wasn't our host's WoodenBoat Show down on the Chesapeake just a few years ago? I thought it was Newport, Maine a couple of times , Mystic a couple of times, Maryland, Michigan, Maine again, then Newport again. I think it's great that they keep moving it around.

Is everyone forgetting the Small boat festival at St Michaels Museum in October? A great event with lots of activities for the exhibitors.

The Woodenboat show later in October at Georgetown, SC is becoming a very busy one-day event. Last year there were more attendees at this show than at the WB show in Newport which runs much longer. Did I mention that it is free to spectators and that exhibitors are treated great by both the organizers and the town. Great dinner too ($35 covers everything).

Also a one day event at the NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort, NC the first weekend in May.

There are others but these are the ones I go to often.

Thanks for the info re buy boats in Rock Hall.
Have just returned from getting a boat from Key West to West Palm or I would have reponded sooner.
I will certainly be going to Rock Hall this spring via boat...Hopefully, will have the mast stepped on Uncas at the end of March and be ready to get out by the 10th of April...After that, will be hitting every harbor, gunk hole on the Chesapeake. Will send you an e-mail.

No, I did not forget the St. Michaels boat show...The key was little...or small craft...I have been to the one you mentioned for several years. Was hoping that there was a boat show for larger boats...i.e., 30+ feet.

JohnE, again, check www.acbs.org for chapters of the Anique & Classic Boat Sociey and their chapter shows. The Lake Tahoe show is probably the biggest in the nation. There are several antique and classic boat shows (not wooden boats only) in California, mostly centered around runabouts, etc...
