Just to let you know I have finally got a new 'puter at home.

Got DOLORES on dry dock at Nelson's in Bon Secour. Gettin' the old gal ready (somewhat) for Biloxi next month.

Hate to do it but I am changing the steering over to hydraulic. Love the originality of the rope steering but have had problems on three occassions now. Afraid it is going to cause me to have an accident sooner or later.

You gonna be able to make it to Biloxi. Remember, I offered you a ride over. We are leaving the morning of the 15th. Let me know.

I wondered where you had been!?! Good to hear from you. Are you going to the wooden boat show in Pirates Cove the first weekend in May? Unfortunately, I will be in Ocala, FL during the Biloxi show so I can't take you up on the ride. How disappointing! Anyway, if you can make the early May show, I would love to meet up with you two then....

I am not sure if DOLORES will be done in time for Pirates Cove. If Cindy is off either day we will probably ride down. Will be on lookout fer ya if'n we do.

Capt. Jake, join us....we are discussing local boat shows. Come on down to the heart of dixie for the Pirates Cove show--first weekend in May--Josephine, Alabama and the Biloxi Show May 15th in Biloxi, Mississippi. We would love to have you drink a cold one with us and admire the boats!!! In Pirates Cove we can eat one of those "cheeseburgers in Paradise"--Jimmy Buffet's inspirational sandwiches.

Man that sounds like a lot of fun, but way too far to travel for me. I am getting ready for a local show here, May 10-11. I will hopefully have 2 boats in the show, both on dry display.

Have fun!

Sorry you can't make it . Have a good time at your show. Please feel free to contribute anytime to our posts--not necessarily one-sided just seems that way because Pelican and I know each other....

Sounds like something I just might attend! Hope I can see ya'll there! The last time I made it to Pirate's Cove, I cracked a gaff jaw on S R Cat and it was really a bummer for me. Work has been having a nasty habit of intruding on my weekends. Maybe luck will shine on me this time around.

Hey, Riley! How have you been--haven't heard from you in ages. I thought you might come to the Wooden Boat Rally at the Grand Mariner on Dog River in February. PYXIS, my catboat, was there. I have had a lot of problems with the jaws on both the boom and gaff. I think they are too light for 100 square feet of sail. The gaff I have finally fixed--took 3 times-- but after the second time the boom jaws broke, I realized I needed to go to a different system. PYXIS is out of the water now for spring maintenance. My focus is on the fiberglass sloop that after 4 years and y months is ready to sail!

Red face

Can't win fer losing.
Was a hookin' up the helm pump yesterday and the angle fitting needed to go about 1/8 more of a turn to be aligned properly. Before it got that far the housing cracked. Strange, it just got tight all of a sudden.
Got another coming overnight. Hope to go back in the water Monday.

Ariel,I replaced mine with 3/4" solid oak. So far, so good but I'm on the 3rd set.....

I wish I could have made the Dog River thing, but right at that time I was up to my neck in alligators and trying to drain the swamp!

Pelican, are you floating yet? The tides are finally somewhat normal so you should be able to get out of Weeks Bay without any trouble. Do you plan to take the boat to Pirates Cove or will you drive? I am going Saturday morning on May 3rd. This weekend is the Dauphin Island Race. I race on Fish class sloop. Looking forward to the race.

Riley, I bought the fitting for the Beetle cat boom that encircles the mast and then attaches to boom eliminating the jaws entirely. However, my mast is too large for it to fit. I want to eliminate the boom jaws entirely. The alternative to a gooseneck arrangement would be to put a "saddle" around the mast for the jaws to sit on. How is your boom attached to the mast?

Still on the hill. Was going back in yesterday but th storms come up and the yard folks don't like sitting on the big steel travel lift while it is lightning. Can't say as i blame 'em. Trying now for Thurs. Added a bit to her color scheme. I'll try to remember to take the digital and post ya a picture.

Cindy is off Sat so we'll try and ride down to Pirates Cove then. Will probably have the decks torn off DELORES so she will have to stay at home.

Is the Dog River thing going to become an annual event? If so they ought to move it more to spring. Maybe the week between Pirates Cove and Biloxi.

Will try and spot ya at the cove. Pel

Always something to do on a boat. I have my sloop sailing now, but I think I could work on her forever.... The catboat is dismantled completely and I have everything to start working on her, but now that I have ARIEL sailing who wants to sand and paint!?! I'm glad you will be there Saturday, because that is when I am going. Will look for you both.

Hey! Mark, 4 years and 7 months to be exact. Your assistance over the summer speeded things up. But, yes, ARIEL is BACK!
