Why, what is wrong with it?
Welcome to the forum.
To help us to help you you will need to edit your profile to tell us where you are, so we have an idea about what materials you can access. To help us advise you about the boat, please post pictures. We LOVE pictures anyway, but without we are just guessing about your question.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.
The power of the web: Anyone can post anything on the web

nothing very wrong with it....stripped some paint with a heat gun
Trying to post some pictures but they all seems to be too big....experimenting with shrinkin them to acceptable size

You cannot post the photos directly to the forum, but rather they must be linked, usually from something like Photobucket, etc. Scroll down and find Thorne's instructions, they are not very far down.

First picture link I can see but the second link is to a login at snapfish.
There are a few tutorials on the forum to teach how to post pictures.
Biggest thing is you cant post them from your computer. You need to have them hosted somewhere else online. As you seem to have. At the top of the window where you are typing your reply to the thread there are 5 icons on the left. the middle of them is a square. It is "ïnsert image". You want the tab at the top of the popup window "FROM URL" copy and paste the address of your picture into the URL bar. Uncheck the box that says " Retrieve remote file and reference locally"
and your pic should show up.
Freudian slips : when you say one thing but mean your mother.
Just tried with your snapfish picture and the forum doesnt like it.
Photobucket?

if you have facebook just post them there ( we all know how to do that ) then in the quick reply box here copy and past the image from facebook .. easy peasy , big is ok .. HUGE lol may not work but the size that facebook puts them up at automatically are the size I post . Where are your intentions with the boat ? It looks to be in ok shape maybe just a scrape down and re-paint would be suitable , the broken bolts should be replaced. It really depends on what you want in the end! welcome to the form .

Just a guy hacking up wood .... making a boat

I just sold my 23' Balboa sailboat - because I have this great 18' plywood boat with an inboard- I think it will be much better boat for us (couple in early 60's)...would like to paint it, build plywood seats....rebuilding motor right now.
Looking for ideas for two single seats for now.

What are you going to do with the split keel? Epoxy?
Personally I would not be comfortable with just epoxy to repair that split.
I would either cut out the split section and scarf on a fresh piece, or, have some steel welded onto the rudder support bracket so that it extends further forward where you could drill a couple of fresh holes and add bolts into good wood.
Or better still weld some tabs onto the sides of the bracket and then you could through bolt them sandwiching the split wooden keel (repaired with epoxy) in between.
Aloha, Ken
well, I used West System epoxy to glue lower piece of wood, and was going to fill the rotted part of upper area with mix of 105 resin, 205 hardener and 404 adhesive filler...but after reading Harbormaster's= suggestion I think I will be going with cutting the rotten part out - along the white line - and fitting a fresh piece and epoxy it in.........I think that will make the keel strong again.........I just got this Drill Guide by wolfcraft off Amazon........good enough to guide the drill straight....it's good the use centerdrill to be in the right spot...than go ahead with the drill guide - especially if you are using larger diameter drill ( about 5/16 and larger) to start the hole.....larger diameter drills tend to wander off course

finished making boat stands and got the boat off the trailer..........need to sand and paint the bottom ....also rebuild the trailer......looking forward to work on trailer.....

The more I look at your boat, the More I like it. Do you know the designer, or if there are plans available?
Thank you.
is the rotten bit really rotten? or just worn around the holes.
The length of scarph in the "white lines" is not very long, but, if you do make it long long, then the problem comes up of hitting vertical bolts.
I would not hesitate to fill it with 403, ( better for this than 404) and bolt her back up.
You do not need to fill it in one go , better to do a few batches, or use tropic hardener , to prevent heat bubbling.
the boat looks to be in pretty nice shape!
That would be great. Thank you.
working all day today......sand, clean, tape, paint.....first coat always looks pretty bad..........can't wait for second coat tomorrow................Wizbang13 - I went ahead to fill the rotted parts with an epoxy...tomorrow will be doing 3rd fill

Geoff,
just got a response from builders niece....here is her e-mail:
........ talked with my Uncle yesterday. He said he had plans out of a magazine, and did not build the boat exactly like the plans. He built it more like the skiffs he had built. Did his own flair. I am going through his magazines and boat plans and taking them to him so maybe it might be in one of them. I saved all of his boat and airplane books, magazines, etc. I will let you know what he says. He did say that he could buy sheets of plywood in those days that came in 20' lengths. Not sure you can do that today. My Uncle has built many boats in his lifetime. I think the largest he built was a 32'. I have pictures of most of them with an exception of the sailboat he built. If you would like to see some of them, I could send a pic. His love was anything on the water and in the air.
This is very exciting!! I love to learn more about this boat!!
applied 3rd batch of West Marine 105 mixed with 404 adhesive filler.....I'm calling it good![]()
That is interesting. I am always amazed that magazines came with the actual plans way back when, instead of just diagrams. I don't miind buying the real plans, but most of the time I can't glean enough info from the magazine blurbs to tell if it's worth it!
Thank you for following up on my inquiry.
