      Re: Tasmanian mini tug build

I'm a tad disappointed with some of the joins, especially on the ends where the clear coat really shows up the glue lines, plus there's a spot that exposed a nasty seam when I sanded it down, I just keep telling myself it's not going to matter in the long run.
I am toying with the idea of running along the bad joins with a dremel and a fine cutting wheel, then filling with a suitable colored filler.

I got the wings that go either side of the wheelhouse made and epoxied in place, theoretically they divert any water over the bow back out a freeing port before it reaches the cockpit.

          Re: Tasmanian mini tug build

The freeing port was supposed to be a simple slot cut into the hull but I didn't like finishing it like that so i used some of my resin cast fairleads and cut the outer bits off leaving just the sleeve that slots onto the hull, this gives the plywood edges some protection from bumps and scrapes.

A coat of primer to show me any imperfections that need filing, also the rest of the fairleads are epoxied in place.

                    Re: Tasmanian mini tug build

I spent a fair chunk of today sanding and polishing the stainless rubbing strips, by far the least enjoyable part of the whole build so far I have decided that I don't care anymore and they are as good as they are going to get.

It's a race against time to get the painting done before it gets too darn cold but I managed a coat of Port Wine today

The paint and shiny stainless looks great. Did it take long to mask everything?

Not long at all, about 30 mins to cover the timber and about the same to cover the bottom, that plastic sheet with the masking tape pre applied is the greatest invention ever, just mask as usual then pull the plastic down from behind, initially I refused to use it due to the cost but boy oh boy I will make sure I always have it on hand from ow on

Wow, speedy! With that sort of efficiency and a great looking result you could turn pro (if you like painting).

Did the pro thing, 8 years of joinery spray painting, 99% of what I had to spray was satin finish so you had to have a fair idea what you were doing, there's no sanding back and buffing with satin

Ah ha! So your pro looking work on the tug is in fact pro work. Pretty convenient having that sort of experience when building your own tug

Can't wait to see the two dimensional wheel house take on a third dimension (again). Will it also be red?
