    Hi Steve,
I've always though of rafts as flat. I could be wrong but these craft are uplifted at both ends and to me that makes it a boat.
What about the Caballito de totora?
    Raft or Boat?

    I think it's a little boat.

I remember reading somewhere an account by a Gringo who was invited for a sail on one of those bamboo boats/rafts with a sailing rig. Much to his surprise it sailed like crazy.

It strikes me as a raft since the flotation comes not from the integrity of the 'hull' but rather from the fact that the individual bamboo pieces are hollow and thus float just as well whether or not they are part of a boat.
