    Default Congratulations Carlotta and Crew

I'm not anyplace where I can post photos which I will add when I get home but we have a winner of the Best Restored Sailboat award at Victoria's Classic Boat Festival.......Carlotta!

The boat (and family) really cleaned up this year. Stunning achievement really. Film (and photos) at 11! (when I get home from my own odyssey).

Also, Bo and Kathy's Waxwing won Best Motorsailor. Congrats to both WBF winners at Victoria!

This is a great, touching and inspiring story that covers about every possible base. I don't have a ton of photos but I will put up what I do have later tonight in the hope the Stephen will chip in a few of his own for the record here on the Forum. Carlotta is look back into another world and another time.

Peter, when I said I didn't have much, I wasn't kidding. I really hope Stephen or some of the other forum people who were there got a few more. I got a bit of the story, which isn't mine to tell, but it is a great one.

I'd say these three pictures do scant justice, but that would be an overstatement. Clearly, you can't possibly tell from these just what has gone into this heavily built and remarkable vessel to make her what she is. And, the Carlotta story isn't about yacht finishes (although the finishes down below are quite fine). We do need some interior shots, and I didn't take them partly because I didn't have my camera in hand and partly because we were talking and I wanted to hear about the boat and not be distracted.

    Stephen: can you oblige us?

This piece suggests just how period appropriate this restoration is.

There was a lot of interest in her and she was a busy boat: it was hard to get an uncluttered shot at the dock. I do have a snippet of her (video) underway during the race but it she is so distant that it doesn't say much.

Again, I have to apologize for the paucity of this picture. I should have gone back in the morning when the crowds weren't there, but I never did get around to it. There will be more opportunities to photograph her as she now has power and will be seen out and around more, I'm sure.

It's OK Lew, we Carlotta lovers have followed her restoration in detail and have a very good idea of her shape . It's just good to see her out and sailing !

That last photo shows her stern off nicely doesn't it?

    Love the reefing bowsprit .

Great to see, she's one of those boats we all watched come together over a number of years so thats just neat to see more of her on the water.
Is Sliver the boat that Gareth had a thread on?

Didn't appeal to me either. I've been told she sails well, but I'm not qualified to comment on that topic.

Thanks for the kind words Lew. It was a pleasure to meet you and chat with you.
We had a terrific time at the Victoria Show. What an honour it was to receive that award.
We went on to the Deer Hbr Rendezvous and then to Port Townsend for the Festival. What a great week of meeting new folks and their boats.
We just got back to Powell River today.
Lots of pics on Carlotta's facebook page from this week.

I am sorry to say that I missed you at Deer Harbor. I was around the corner at Westsound on Syrene. (81 ft. 1921 all teak, copper bottom Thornycroft built power boat.) We went to the barbecue and walked the docks but did not see Carlotta...

I have been following the work on your boat and I wish to salute you!! The honors are certainly not misplaced!

I saw her at Port Townsend and admired her greatly. Her tiller looked kind of short, though - is she a bear to steer?

Yeah too bad we missed crossing paths. I was at the BBQ too. We anchored in deer hbr.
Carlotta's helm is quite light and not hard to steer or handle. The tiller is about five feet long. I don't find it short.
