    Default John Masters

I have been re-reading his work by ordering them from the used bookstores on Amazon.com. I forgot how much I enjoyed his work.

Pretty interesting considering his personal history as an officer of Gurkhas in WWII.

If you are interested in reading novels about India during the period of English colonialism, especially the very complicated relationship between the Indian soldiers and the Englishmen who were their officers, there is some good reading there.

In a similar vein there is "The Hundred Days of Lt. Machorton" by Ian Machorton, 1958 (British imprint "Safer Than a Known Way"). A 19 year old university student becomes an officer in a Ghurka regiment and finds himself wounded and alone in the Burma jungle.
