Default You can't get rid of the poor

You can't get rid of the poor no matter what is done.

It does not matter if you make all the poor in America rich, the low income jobs will still be done by the poor in another country.

Mind you there are other ways to be rich, than accumulation of money.

    These two come to mind.

    IF.....

    and

Go placidly amidst the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its shams, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
    Be cheerful.
    Strive to be happy
Thou shalt incur undying wrath if thou post anything, however true, that is negative (however so slightly) of the Democrats or of POTUS on this forum.

It's hard to be happy when you are hungry, cold, and a constant target for derision and scorn. Especially when your "betters" insist that you are just lazy and only want a free ride.

Other than that, being poor is just peachy.

    oh, are we doing potry?

    The Hollow Men

    T. S. Eliot

    Mistah Kurtz—he dead.

A penny for the Old Guy

    I

    We are the hollow men
    We are the stuffed men
    Leaning together
    Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
    Our dried voices, when
    We whisper together
    Are quiet and meaningless
    As wind in dry grass
Or rats’ feet over broken glass
    In our dry cellar

Shape without form, shade without colour,
    Paralysed force, gesture without motion;

    Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death’s other Kingdom
Remember us—if at all—not as lost
    Violent souls, but only
    As the hollow men
    The stuffed men.

    II

Eyes I dare not meet in dreams
    In death’s dream kingdom
    These do not appear:
    There, the eyes are
    Sunlight on a broken column
    There, is a tree swinging
    And voices are
    In the wind’s singing
    More distant and more solemn
    Than a fading star.

    Let me be no nearer
    In death’s dream kingdom
    Let me also wear
    Such deliberate disguises
    Rat’s coat, crowskin, crossed staves
    In a field
    Behaving as the wind behaves
    No nearer—

    Not that final meeting
    In the twilight kingdom

    III

    This is the dead land
    This is cactus land
    Here the stone images
    Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man’s hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.

    Is it like this
    In death’s other kingdom
    Waking alone
At the hour when we are
    Trembling with tenderness
    Lips that would kiss
    Form prayers to broken stone.

    IV

    The eyes are not here
    There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
    In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms

In this last of meeting places
    We grope together
    And avoid speech
Gathered on this beach of the tumid river

    Sightless, unless
    The eyes reappear
    As the perpetual star
    Multifoliate rose
    Of death’s twilight kingdom
    The hope only
    Of empty men.

    V

Here we go round the prickly pear
    Prickly pear prickly pear
Here we go round the prickly pear
At five o’clock in the morning.

    Between the idea
    And the reality
    Between the motion
    And the act
    Falls the Shadow
    For Thine is the Kingdom

    Between the conception
    And the creation
    Between the emotion
    And the response
    Falls the Shadow
    Life is very long

    Between the desire
    And the spasm
    Between the potency
    And the existence
    Between the essence
    And the descent
    Falls the Shadow
    For Thine is the Kingdom

    For Thine is
    Life is
    For Thine is the

    Go placidly
    Amid the noise and waste.
And remember what comfort there may be
    In owning a piece thereof.
    Avoid quiet and passive persons
Unless you are in need of sleep.
    Ro-tate your tires.
Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself
    And heed well their advice,
    Even though they be turkeys.
    Know what to kiss.....and when!
Consider that two wrongs never make a right
    But that THREE.........do.
Wherever possible, put people on hold.

Wake up kid its half past your youth
Ain't nothin' really changing but the date
You a grand slammer, but you know Babe Ruth
You gotta learn how to relate
Or you'll be swinging from the pearly gate
Now you got all the answers, low and behold
You the right key baby, but the wrong keyhole, yo

Well I woke up this morning
On the wrong side of the bed
And how I got to thinkin'
About all those things you said
    About ordinary people
And how they make you sick
And if callin' names kicks back on you
Then I hope this does the trick

'Cause I'm a sick of your complainin'
    About how many bills
And I'm sick of all your bitchin'
Bout your poodles and your pills
And I just can't see no humor
    About your way of life
And I think I can do more for you
With this here fork and knife

Eat the Rich: there's only one thing they're good for
Eat the Rich: take one bite now - come back for more
Eat the Rich: I gotta get this off my chest
Eat the Rich: take one bite now, spit out the rest

So I called up my head shrinker
And I told him what I'd done
Said you'd best go on a diet
Yeah I hope you have some fun
    And a don't go burst a bubble
On the rich folks who get rude
'Cause you won't get in no trouble
When you eats that kinda food
Now their smokin' up the junk bonds
And then they go get stiff
And they're dancin' in the yacht club
    With Muff and Uncle Biff
But there's one good thing that happens
When you toss your pearls aside
Their attitudes may taste like s**t
But go real good with wine

Believe in all the good things
    That money just can't buy
Then you won't get no belly ache
    From eatin' humble pie
I believe in rags to riches
    Your inheritence won't last
So take your Grey Poupon my friend
And shove it up your @ss!

Eat the Rich: there's only one thing they're good for
Eat the Rich: take one bite now - come back for more
Eat the Rich: don't stop me now I'm goin' crazy
Eat the Rich: that's my idea of a good time baby

    The rest of it:

You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not
The universe is laughing behind your back.
    Remember the Pueblo.
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle and mutilate.
Know yourself. If you need help, call the FBI.
Exercise caution in your daily affairs,
Especially with those persons closest to you.
That lemon on your left, for instance.
Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls
Would scarcely get your feet wet.
Fall not in love therefore; it will stick to your face.
Gracefully surrender the things of youth:
The birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan
And let not the sands of time get in your lunch.
    Hire people with hooks.
For a good time call 606-4311; ask for "Ken."
Take heart amid the deepening gloom that your dog is finally getting enough cheese.
And reflect that whatever misfortune may be your lot, it could only be worse in Milwaukee.

You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not
The universe is laughing behind your back.
Therefore, make peace with your God
Whatever you conceive him to be---
    Hairy thunderer, or cosmic muffin.
With all its hopes, dreams, promises and urban renewal
    The world continues to deteriorate.
    Give up.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations,
    for nature cannot be fooled."

Yes you should, I had to watch it a few times to really soak it up.
Tom Waits totally steals that movie with a bit part as the "Moral Traffic light".

The question is-WHAT is poor? Is it the value in a dollar bill? What is Rich? If we decided the $ paper bill is newspaper, would the Rich still be? If we decided rich was a loving family, and a warm bed and food-would it have the same value? Rich is in the eyes of the beholder. It's all in the value. So,anyone who has love in their world will never be truly poor. Always help those in need.A Megaigazillion dollars wont replace the richness of community, loving family and friends.

Exclamation Re: You can't get rid of the poor

Poor and insane is a bad combination.
    That's what's out there though.
I see it more and more at the homeless shelter I work at.
We had five guys last winter who were schizophrenic and should have been instatutionalized.
Instead they were dumped on us.
They scare people with their behavior and get beat up alot.
    Wow, 46 times, really?
