The Republican convention comes first: it may solve all the problems the dems are having with theirs.

Geng is getting more manic with every new thread. The worse Romney looks the more remediation he tries to find. I hope he doesn't come unglued when Romney suffers just what the pollsters have been predicting all along.

All this discussion reminds me of the old bumper cars at Roseland Park (Canandaigua Lake).

And where are all those old cars.

I think that business about the unions withholding the boodle might smart a little. And that get out the vote effort might be huge in light of the Republican voter fraud conspiracy. It is a little early for the coronation of Obama.

From the same article quoted by the OP:

Democrats are not alone, Republican elected officials have opted not to attend this year’s GOP convention in Tampa Bay, Fla. as well. Recently, Montana Rep. and GOP Senate nominee Denny Rehberg announced he would not be attending. Rehberg has been distancing himself to some degree from the Republican congress, he recently ran an ad in which he criticized Paul Ryan’s budget proposal.

Party leaders skipping their party’s conventions is not an entirely new phenomenon: Claire McCaskill has actually skipped her party’s convention before, in 2004. In 2008 several GOP senators facing re-election including Susan Collins of Maine skipped out on the festivities in Minnesota.

I have to admit that the more I read here in the bilge, the more I realize that at times the only rational post in response to some of the trogodytes is an irrational one which will get them frothing at in mouth in indignation. So good for Glen!

Incidentally, you still haven't responded with your personal plan to survive the coming financial disaster that posted about. Why would you waste your time posting about coming financial disasters then abandon the thread???

The real issue for the Unions is Team Obama was not working with the Unions but rather taking them for granted.
The location was one exmaple but the Unions are also not being involved with the Convention planning

DNC 2012: Upset With Convention Location, Unions Hold Own Rally

Prominent labor leaders created the "Workers Stand for America" rally after what they say was their lack of input into planning for the 2012 Democratic Convention in Charlotte, N.C., which is set to begin Sept. 4.

To digress for a moment, the funniest thing I saw when I was down in Florida on the news just the other day, is that the Republican Convention is making available to convention goers some kind of 6 or 8 passenger pedicabs for conventioneers to get around the Tampa area in an attempt to appear green.

Should be a real hoot(not) when 6 or 8 corn fed, somewhat overweight mid-western delegates decide to take a pedicab in 95 degree and 95% humidity weather in SW Florida in August. EMT's should be fairly busy if anyone is actually dumb enough to try and pedal one of those rolling heart attack machines.

Probably in a smoke-filled back room

(I'm sure it involves a great deal of horse-trading between politicians who want it in their state for the sake of the economic boost... probably accomplished with promises of support for other projects, down the road)

Incentives are always offered for large conventions but the choice of NC is puzzling to me.

I think the Dems wanted to hold their convention right square in the middle of the Snake-Handling, Fundamentalist, Tea Party, Troglodytic Capitol of the country, simply to jerk them out of the eighteenth century and rub their faces in the twenty-first century for a moment.

. . . and the reason for the GOP holding it in Florida?

Well if this is the reason for having the Convention in NC it has cost Obama the support and money from the big unions.
Not a very smart thing to do.

Obama will be giving his acceptance speech at the 73,778 seat Bank of America Stadium home of the NFL Carolina Panthers.
In 2008 the Obama did the same thing .
He held his acceptance speech in the Denver Football Stadium and filled it with 84,000 people.

Do you think this year Obama will fill the Stadium?
If he does not fill the Stadium do you think it will show less support for him in the election?

Gee, Glen, with such a convincing point of view, I'm amazed that more Southerners don't just hop on your bandwagon.

Charlotte is a Democrat controlled city, in a state with a Democrat Governor, and until recently, a Democrat controlled State legislature. It is also a major city with the facilities to handle such a convention, and in a state that the Dems need to win.

Having said that, local media folks are starting to refer to it as the Democrat National Cluster. Personally, I'm staying away from the Uptown area for the duration. It's going to be a mess.

What, you are admitting that Democrats are fair weather supporters?

If you say that, then man you need a good

2012 DNC Attendance is expected to only be 35,000.
In 2008 DNC had an attendance of 50,000.

    Big drop in attendance.

At the moment Barach Obama is the President of the United States of America. Agreed? Supposedly the Secret Service that guards the President of the United States of America is dead set against having him appear in the vast stadiums that those huge crowds require. They are far too difficult to control.
    Got it?

Here you go, folks. Have fun with this one.

Oh, BTW Mr Longino Mr. Eastwood hit it on the head with his characterization of Joe Biden as the intellectual basis of the Democrat party- a grin with a body behind it. _Do_ please try to offer something other than petulant- preschooler-in-a-sandbox "discussions" with your attempted rebuttals and refutations.
Brute force and ignorance, all in one bulky and unappealing package

Hillary Clinton will not be at the Convention.

Hillary Rodham Clinton won’t be seen close to Charlotte during the Democratic convention

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will be about asfar away as her State Department plane could take her when the convention opensin Charlotte. She left Washington on Thursday for an island hopping trip acrossthe South Pacific and Southeast Asia, with visits to the Cook Islands,Timor-Leste and Brunei, on the island of Borneo.

My guess is they decided it would be a good idea to go into a Republican stronghold. As to the unions, whether they feel taken for granted or not, if they're dumb enough to do anything that helps Romney win, they do so at their own great peril.
