    Default Egg Reach Regatta 2012

Here is a nice link to photos of the recent Eggemoggin Reach Regatta 2012.
Just off the campus of our beloved patron of this Forum.

From the local paper the Ellsworth American

If you weren't there (I wasn't sadly) this is what you missed...

Thanks, Queenie. The first two dozen or so photos show the doldrums before the start.

The start was delayed an hour, and then the wind started to fill in. It was about as perfect a day as anyone could want... starts notwithstanding.

    We missed you there/here.

I think it's cool that the mark was a Nutshell Pram with a flag on its mast.

But the highlight for me was seeing that Elly was there from NS! And looking as fantastic as ever. If I had known she would be there I would have tried harder to make it to the race. When I saw her in Mahone Bay years ago her rig was out and she was on a mooring waiting for a big restoration.

We dream of taking Talisman up for the ERR someday. It will happen!

I just looked at the results page. Elly won an award for most photogenic and another for oldest boat in the Race - 1875. Her captain's name wasn't familiar, I wonder if she's changed hands?

Also of interest to me was that Gosling was listed, a 1951 Joel Johnson built Al Mason designed Ostkust just like our own Talisman. So I guess the 25' limit is a little more flexible than I thought. That is good news.

Now if we can just find some pics of Elly, the site above won't let me link pics here.

My friend Richard Holk from Magnolia Springs was sailing his Knarr in the race this year. I couldn't get him to invite me!

You might note the results are "preliminary." A large number of boats do not have a correct "corrected" time, that is, the correction is not based on the boat's time allowance. I think there are some other errors (for example Swallow's rating is different than what was originally posted) that will be eventually sorted out. Probably there will be a later post of the final results.

    Steven,

This year the minimum LOA on deck was changed to 24 ft. It was not widely publicized, but it is on the entry form. So your boat would certainly qualify.

I am resisting my wish to make excuses re our downwind performance, but I am already thinking of a symmetrical spinnaker for next year.

Frank -- You were doing SO great... until the run home. You were 4th around Egg Rock, weren't you?

Get a big honking 'chute of one sort or another.
