okume (sp?)plywood question

I am redecking my Thompson Seacoaster w/ 6mm okume and noticed that the new is lathe peeled and the existing (what little does exist) is a vertical sliced veeneer. I've had helpful advice on staining to match, but I wonder if there is something to do which would give the finished deck grain an appearance of a better match to the old. Has anyone else had this situation or am I just too picky for a poor guy? Happy New Year everybody- all boat pics are great- when I'm done I'll cobble up a set of mine to send in.

There is Not muchI know of you can do. The grain is making a pattern over the entire sheet so it will be hard to break up. But since okume is a fairly straight grain you can try a razor knife. score a line that should be darker when finished. I am assumeing bright finish. Try a scrap piece first and let me know how it works.

Thanks Rick-Yes, bright finsh-I had a similar thought-something to give a bit of linearity to the grain pattern. Any suggestions as to spacing? I'll let you all know if this works out- it can't hurt, unless I get carried away with my knife.
