Default Video: Barkley Sound by Sail & Oar

This video is intended as a companion to the picture thread here: Bandwagon, Big Food, Hornpipe & Rowan do Barkley Sound. You may want to read that one first for context if you haven't already.

It's a big, decently high resolution video, as HD as an iPhone camera can handle, so put 'er on fullscreen, crank up the volume so you can hear the sound of the whale spouts, and enjoy!

    Amphibious Macroplankton Oughtredia doublendus
Mostly found frequenting the littoral and estuarine zones in the southern half of the Salish Sea, though sightings have been recorded both north and south of this area, and occasionally, but rarely, inland, in freshwater environments. This species lives on micro-brewed beer and dutch-oven biscuits, and displays brightly colored nylon and gore-tex plumage during the rainy season. Approach with caution!

You should add an exclamation mark after "row".

I think you may be right Steven, I've needed an exclamation point a few times myself.

I was going to explain that the oars were at rest, then thought, "heck, if you have to explain it..."

I wouldn't want to be called a duffer Don, I ain't drown yet.

So here's a slightly more refined version.

Ah yes, much better. Now, take the "shut up and row" line and let it complete the circle that "outboards are for sissies" has established. That will give it continuity and allow "Sail and Oar Society" to stand out on its own. By the way, shouldn't it be... just shut up and row...?

Gawd, don't you just hate nitpickers!

PS what do you think about actually having the oar blades in the water?

Not picky at all are you? I do only have pen and ink and a Paint program ya know.

    Well, we'll see...

    ETA- Okay here's another draft.

You're SOL on the oars though (at least for tonight).

Dang'd artysts! No, I liked the previous itteration. I just thought it would look better if the bottom line was curved to reflect the top line, not straight. Now it's too busy.

Yikes (running and ducking for cover) I should know better than to piss off an Alaskan!

If the mizzenmast is a little to starboard, shouldn't the stem be a little to port?

I think the logo works great, as is.

The thing with projects like this ... you can fiddle with them forever, but once it works, go with it. Now, personally, I'd kill the "Shut up and row" as "Outboards are for sissies" causes a situation where the reader has to fill in the blank themselves. That's often much more powerful than offering up the punchline, too.

Okay boys, due to popular demand, I am working behind the scenes with Jim (jsjpd1) to put together a bona fide Shut up and Row! t-shirt design that we will upload to Zazzle so anyone anywhere can order one printed and shipped directly to their door. Details to follow once we get the design finalized and uploaded.

I think this hilarious! I'm glad so many of the rest of you like Jim's idea as much as I do. I plan to wear mine to the Wooden Boat Festival in September.

Okay Ladies and Gents here is the final design and a link for t-shirts if you're so inclined. Neither James or I are getting anything out of it except that warm feeling from helping our brothers and sisters in the Sail & Oar Society.
