    Default Crazy afternoon at work

This afternoon the local police called the plant. A family member said one of our contractors was headed to the plant for his shift, armed and suicidal. Several of us get to the gatehouse where the police were on the line, and among other things find this guy just signed in 10 minutes ago. So we scramble to quietly evacuate the plant while the police are on the way. I'm wondering about my sanity going around the place rounding up my guys and getting them out. Then the QA lab, etc. By the time we get out, the police were there, armed to the teeth. Can't blame them, but gives you a sinking feeling watching 3 of them go into the plant with M-16s. Knowing it could very easily not end well.

In the end, it did end well. They found him relaxing, waiting for his shift to start, very cooperative. Rumor is an ex-GF laid the story on the police to create trouble. I don't know the law, but that should be a crime of some sort, reckless endangerment or something. Winding down isn't coming easily tonight.

    Cheers,

    Bobby

Provably, knowingly false accusation should be punishable on the same general guidelines as the alleged offence.

We practice employee response to what is known as "active shooter" incidents frequently. The accepted response (in Dod facilities) is to gather employees quickly into rooms that can be secured. Never try to evacuate in this type of situation. Just saying.

We practice a lot of stuff. Tornado drills and a multitude of different chemical spills. Our Emergency Response Team has preplanned most of the release scenarios we can think of. They are pretty good. This is not something we have worked on, and quite honestly our response was on the fly. I think we executed what we decided to do fairly well, we will have to review whether this is what we should have done in the review. Thanks for the heads up.

    Cheers,

    Bobby

A small chemical plant, about 75 employees. Take out the off-shifts and the vacationers we probably had 50+ employees, and ~10 contractors onsite. We use a lot of evil stuff, so we work hard to be prepared to deal with those things. Had a full-blown shut the plant down, evacuate, and respond drill just last week simulating a leak. Went well, but there are always lessons to be learned. We came away with a page long list of work to do out of that.

Thanks for that, I've already forwarded the link to work. I'll look at it in the morning and for sure we'll have a review meeting to discuss things.

Glad to hear it all finished up safely for everyone. I hope the police have some serious questions for the Ex-GF. I'd like to commend you, however, on your courage in going about the whole thing in a calm manner. That was not easy.

Even Wal-Mart has plans, but I don't think they practice.
I found a Wally World ID tag once and on the back it had several codes printed, blue was a water spill, green (IIRC) was a lost child, etc. Brown was a gun.
My advice is to never ask "Do you have these pants in BROWN?"
