Hi Paul , congrats on the Carmen, a lovely boat !

If you need to bend the SG around the hull get it green , it varnishs up nicely too. Good luck !

Green, air dried or KD, Spotted Gum will need steaming to be persuaded to take any kind of curve of significance. As far as deck hatches and other bits and bobs will also be good in SG. Just make sure you get quarter sawn stock to use.

I'm thinking of using some from my stash for a moulded sheer strake on my Dragon.

The Carmen really is an Australian classic and I'm very glad that someone out there is looking after our floating heritage.

Looking forward to seeing some pictures of her Paul.

Hi Peter much appreciate your advice, Im Balmain Sydney based and Calliope is bobbing around on lake macquarie, I only had her for just over a year her previous owner had her for 25yrs and before that she had a very salubrious and well documented race history being 1 of the 10 that was built by ron swanson purley for blue water ocean racing in 1965, i guess im lucky in regards that the lake has been very kind to her the fact she is still is in her original virgin race trim and very spartan regard
