Default Profile Drawings for Lyman / Thompson

I have been searching to find a profile sketch of either a Lyman or Thompson. Still not sure what make the boat is, as when we bought it, she came with zero information. I've posted a picture here of here post-restoration. Any advice greatly appreciated, thank you!7221_135229491219_1732252_n3.jpg

I doubt your boat is either a Lyman or Thompson. The laps appear too heavy for those lightweight production models. There were many companies building lapstrake boats back then and my guess is that yours might be Canadian. It would be helpful to know your location and have more and larger photos.

I grew up on Long Island, when I was a kid, Jersey Skiffs were the predomonant boats for work or pleasure. This one has very strong Verity or Jorgensen looks to it, they were Long Island builders. There were a number of builders of lapstrake skiffs like this along the Jersey shore. Does it have a box keel? what does the registration say, as to name? Rich

By concealing your location you have put us at a disadvantage.
There are various resuorces that are able to identify hulls of unknown origin if the item was made by a well established yard. The people to contact are the Antique and Classic Boat Society. You need to have your ducks in a row. Pictures, location, measurements, and an assurance you have examined everything for any hidden ID numbers.

Chuck, it has connecticut registration, which leads me to believe a New Jersey/ Long Island builder.

Curious, .... Though she does appear to have a certain 'Jersey' influence, there are some traits that don't seem right. If she has a boxed or rolled garboard keel (her visible lines don't rule that out) she would most likely have to be pre WWII (if built in Jersey). I'd love to see more pictures & some interior & bilge shots. - As Rich says, she has a strong Verity resemblance (lots of rocker in her shear, relatively low freeboard, narrow beam, neither flare nore tumblehome in the transom) . Though she doesn't have the traditional square top section to her stem that Jersey builders & Verity used. Roger (Holzbt) could weigh in on this if she is L.I. built.

If it doesn't have a box keel, I would bet Sam Jorgensen built it. Long Island Maritime Museum has a lot of Jorgensen information as well as one of his skiffs in their museum. Almost all the Verity's including the one my dad had in the 50's, had some degree of tumblehome in the aft sections and transom. The Jorgensens, had virtually none, very much like the Hankins skiff I owned back in the 70's. Rich

Interesting. Thanks Rich. The Jersey builders I am real good with and know very well. The L.I. builders, ...... Verity is one of the few names (& lines) I am familiar with.
