Default Wooden boat rowing event in San Francisco, Saturday August 18

    Hello WBF,

First post here. Quick intro - I've built one boat so far (Welsford Walkabout), and met a few members (Thorne and Tom Kremer at TSCA, James McMullen at Pt Townsend last year).

The South End Rowing Club is holding their Wooden Boat Classic Regatta again this year, all kinds of classic boats invited. It's a rowing race (not too serious), good food, and a chance to tour the South End and Dolphin Clubs' collection of wooden rowing boats on Hyde Street Pier. Kohlenberg and the other Viking rowboats are at the Dolphin Club. I did this last year with the Walkabout, it was a lot of fun. This did not get much press last year, so I was the only non-club attendee, hoping for some more boats to show up this year.

Thom et al; For any available, both clubs are fantastic spots to visit, boats all over the place, great hearty, fun loving folks, history in every timber, well worth a trip, we are booked that day, but can recommend a peek if you can get a chance...Best, Steve/BT

    Bump...

The Regatta is on for tomorrow, just got this from William Newby at South End:

    Boat Fans,

This Saturday is the Wooden Boat Regatta! If you are thinking of coming but haven’t sent your entry form in yet, it’s not too late!

For any of you who might be intimidated about the regatta/racing part, there is nothing wrong with some intense competition, but won’t it just be fun to have the bay covered in classical wooden boats?

The event page has been updated to include course maps and details of what blackaller buoy looks like [for the long course].

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I am a member. I am not positive I can go, as I write this, but I do know that if you bring your own boat, we will help you get it around to t he roller doors and launch from the club pier. My problem is what to do with a trailer, if I bring a trailered boat...normally I can sneak in early through the marine park entrance and the stow the trailer out of sight, or at least unobtrusively, between the Dolphin and the SE clubhouse. I don't know about tomorrow. There is no trailer storage in the area that I am aware of.
